Ossi Vaananen
Benning + WD: - Playoffs ‘realistic’ - Players trained hard in summer - Added to depth throughout lineup - No reported injuries heading into camp - Baertschi could start at 2LW, ‘exciting player’, WD believes he will keep improving, competitive, trust in that role. - Miller #1 heading into season, up to Willie as to who gets games - No games quota on how much each goaltender plays - WD – transition game we will score. Jarvis/Malholtra help with this - Eriksson starts with Sedins, won’t be “locked in” - Better through neutral zone, create chances - JB on Rodin – skillset to help us score - WD – getting a ‘better’ Brandon Sutter – depth through middle - On Virtanen – has to make step, plays hard, heavy game, attributes needed in lineup - Have centres that can play wing, tonnes of versatility - Competitive camp, 15 or so guys 26 or younger. Getting faster. Help young players develop, learn to win. - Eriksson makes other players better. - Jarvis, Neutral zone, powerplay, and centre responsibilities. Works with Manny. - On Gudbranson, leadership on backend, harder to play against, physicality, intangibles help whole team. Pairing with Hutton likely - WD praises Larsen, gifted offensively, high end skill. ‘it’s his time’, strong enough 5 on 5 - Start the year with 8D, simplify play - 4 forwards on PP, options. Tanev improved shot in offseason - Burrows important piece, leader. - Tryamkin, better chance to make team with experience from last year, get pushed in camp - Baertschi/Horvat as pair, Virtanen/Rodin/Hansen as potential linemates - Bo Most consistent
Ossi Vaananen
Dorsett/Sutter/Horvat/Baertschi: - Horvat wants to step into leadership role, - Dorsett – Gudbranson hard to play against - Baertschi – can be scoring forward, happy with season, trying to be consistent, good chemistry with Bo, likes speed on other wing - Sutter – focus on winning, ‘sour taste’ from last year, progress last year, development, know vision now, started offseason training march 20th with Edler. Eriksson must score 40 to keep number
Ossi Vaananen
Miller/Edler/Gudbranson: - Gudbrason - well led team, experienced group, going in right direction. believes he can bring more offensively. confident, can step up. Likes Hutton, compares to Campbell as partner - Edler vet on D, feels recovered from injuries, excited, - Miller, a lot to prove from last year, has to perform, motivated - "compete, earn it", wants to be competitive, engaged. wants to win. Can be beneficial to have fewer games in reg season - Murray comparison -
Ossi Vaananen
Virtanen/Etem/Hutton/Tanev: - Hutton, likes the idea of playing with Gudbranson, compliments each other well, knows from Ottawa days - Virtanen, needs to work on consistency- on and off-ice. Trained hard, so did everyone. Utica option, wants to play in Vancouver, play his game in his hometown - Tanev, team needs to do better, more pucks on net. - Etem - speed guy, forecheck, get to net, finish checks, bottom or top 6, feels versatile. SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Did Dorsett even get a question there? I missed maybe 45 seconds but it seems like the media was only interested in Sutter (who the team calls "Suttsy" it seems), Bo, and Baer.

They asked him i think two questions but mainly about the addition of Gudbranson adding toughness and grit

He had 2...can't remember the 1st, but the 2nd was his thoughts on having Guddy (?) on the team (which of course he's delighted about).
Blue Jay 22
I'll reserve judgment until the results come in...but a Virtanen/Rodin/Hansen line just sounds weird.

kloubek
Thanks for the summary, as I don't have time to listen to it. So he says Baertschi/Horvat are a pair, and also says that Baertschi may play as 2nd line LW. Does that mean he expects Horvat to take his likely rightful place as 2c - thereby pushing Sutter down to 3c?
Madwolf
I don't think it really matters what you number the 2nd and 3rd lines. They're interchangeable at the moment. Deployment will be more important.

Interesting that he's changed his tune on Horvat/Baer. That changes a lot.

Ossi Vaananen
Looks like that's it, though they did promise 20 players. That's fine, with those guys and the Swedes at worlds, we have a pretty good idea of the new core.

Are they gonna start it up again or is that it? That's only half as many as promised!
