cuporbust
If u are looking at advanced stats , u may not be as excited about the acquisition of the 24 year old rough and tuff stay at home d man as i am. With the departure of the very popular locker room leader kevin bieksa , benning addmimedly left a large hole in the leadership group here. If early signs mean anything , they have found a very good replacement. This guy could very well be the x factor we needed to bring guys like hutton and virtanen along. At 24 years old , he is not concidered a vertan , but seems to carry himself like one and comands similar respect from his teammates. Not sure if u guys have read these , but stuff like this is invaluable. And on ice , we have a guy that will be fun to watch. From the homefront to the locker-room, a maturing Jake Virtanen getting the right guidance http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/wild-card-jake-virtanen-ready-to-earn-his-spot-with-canucks - The Province http://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks-gudbranson-hutton-pairing
Guest
I was always excited for him because I know the leadership qualities he brings and the way plays. There is something about his style that's captivating. He will be a great player. Nobody can replace Bieksa but he is gonna be great fun to watch. chon derry
all the trash talking by the eastern media didn't happen with much foresight ,i'm glad it did though ,only to see them eat their words.....
Bandwagon38
Loved the trade day one! Nothing I hate more than a team that can get pushed around and isn't hard to play against. Looking at the roster, we are not going to be easy to play against!!!! Can't wait. We may lose games but the other teams will have to earn it finally
kingofsurrey
Some players have the ability to make their teamates played tougher/harder with more compete. Bieksa was that type of guy. Hoping Guddy brings the same thing to our club.
Positive Canuck
Looking forward to Guddy, Tryamkin and Pedan turning the front of the net from a "All members of the public welcome" massage parlour to a blood bath.
Fanuck
Agree with OP about Gud and his 'x' factor - but I just call it 'old school hockey '. This couldn't have gone in the existing Gudbranson thread however?
Hairy Kneel
With our size and speed back there we don't need to look for dirty hits either. Just finishing our checks will hurt good enough and I think they can take the welcome mat away from our crease now.

Thank goodness for Gudbranson and hopefully Tryamkin as well, who looks like he could be a top-4 guy in the near future.
Rush17
I read it earlier. his leadership Is already showing. this article gives us good insight into Jake and his situation being a young local kid. it has a good perspective. I enjoyed it.
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Definitely tough to quantify leadership with analytics and the bridge Guddy provides between the young players and the veteran leaders on this team will never show up on a hero chart. But clearly his impact is already being felt and this bodes very well for the future of this team.

They usually dont hit thier prime until mid to late 20s so there is still possiblly room for a breakout year

There are so many really bad "analysts" out there its not funny. Take our friend Mr. Yost, who in one article slams the GudBranson trade on his take on D stats, and a few months later proclaims you can't determine the impact of specific D men on scoring suppression using those very same 'methods'. I'm not saying there isn't a place for stats, but my guess is any actual validated methods are kept well under wraps and get you a job in Florida or Toronto, and you won't see them in any hack articles like the ones about GudBranson. I don't care what un-validated methods say, I will though know it when I see it on the ice if GudBranson is the real deal, and it sure seems like he will be. Bovechkin
I'm honestly stoked to see Gud play with Hutton. Hopefully having Gud as his backup will allow Hutton to take a little more risks offensively which is something our blue line desperately needs. Also I'm hoping that Gud will be Dorsett 2.0 in terms of standing up for his teammates; Hutton is our future star and I do not want to see opposition taking liberties with him. JB getting Gudbranson (IMHAO) is like when Nonis got Luongo. This move is the key to our coming years of success.

Can't wait to see who makes the team this year and how we fare. I doubt Rodin does anything other than head home after training camp but at least JB is leaving no stone unturned. Positive Canuck
Loved the trade from Day 1 Gudbranson is possible Captain material. Watched 25 Panthers games last year and he was consistently one of the best guys on the ice, EXACTLY what Canucks been missing back there.

To me the cost was so great that it overshadowed how good a player we got back...it kinda felt like when we got Luongo...which I also didn't like from day one for exactly the same reasons, but I quickly got used to it! What? In both trades WE GAVE UP NOTHING! Keenan got fired for the Luongo deal, and both Willie Mitchell and Luongo reacted to the return for Gudbranson with "WTF". Why in the world would you think we gave up anything of real value in either of those traded? Look at the reactions of the Florida side on both accounts. We won those trades BIG TIME:) Be happy.
