Vancouver Canucks: Bo Horvat

Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

Ever since the Sedin twins had their breakout NHL seasons in 2005-06, the Vancouver Canucks offense has centred around them. This system worked well for the Canucks for a very long time. There was a time when the Sedin’s were the most dangerous duo in the entire league. Both of them are former Art Ross Trophy winners as Henrik won in 2009-10, while Daniel won in 2010-11.

In recent years the Canucks haven’t had too much success with all of their offense channelling through the Sedin’s. It’s only natural that as they are start to get up in age, their production will begin to decline, and last season is a perfect example of that. The Canucks were led by Daniel Sedin with 61 points. While that’s still a decent amount points, it’s a far cry from what the Sedin’s used to produce. It wouldn’t be a shock if their production continues to fall next season. This is why the Canucks need to look at some of their younger players to take charge of the offense. The player that particularly stands out is 2013 first round draft pick Bo Horvat. Last season was Horvat’s second in the NHL and he finished third on the team in points with 40. While Horvat’s was never a prolific scorer in junior but he should be able to be a 60 point player in the NHL, and that could happen as early as the 2016-17 season.

Runner-Up Candidate: Daniel Sedin

I realize it's mostly click bait, but it's nice to hear Bo getting some  recognition as more than just a 3rd line centre. Still feel it's a bit early for him to wrestle the scoring lead from the twins as they will be at the top regarding ice time, especially with Loui coming in.

making a headline in bold font and putting something on the internet doesn't make it an article.

typically, passing 8th grade english and having a modicum of writing ability, as well as being subject to editing prior to publication, are a couple of the most basic prerequisites.

50 points and I'm stoked!

I'll take 45 or 47 happily. And would love specifically to see improved puck possession skills. Hanging onto the puck under pressure. Then an East / West game with rapid cuts and changes in direction. With and without the puck. Some passing & some cycle game starting to emerge. These are area's to execute skills we have not completely seen yet. Which might see him as our top scorer in a few years?

Where we (I do anyway) think he already has a good North / South game in trainsition.

If Bo leads the team with 60 pts we are in deep, deep trouble.

I have guessed that Bohammed will get 60 pts he will not lead. He will be 3rd or 4th.

If Bo has decent success it will lift the whole team because it means we have secondary scoring , a good second pp unit and the Sedins will have a chance to face weaker defenders some nights.

Bo and Sven both sound confident this year.  Last season was a huge turning point in their careers.  I'm expecting 50 points each.  Maybe more.  The Sedins and Ericksson should all be in low to mid 60s based on health.

Agreed. People forget that this is going to be Bo's third season in the NHL. If he's not beginning to turn it on after this season, more trouble may lay ahead for this team.

Ya I dunno about that.

last year was a bit of a right off for him and others for that matter.  I wouldn't consider last year a typical year of development for any high end pick.

Yah, Bo had 40 points total even after a horrible first 30 games.  I expect to see more consistency to his game this year.  The wild cards for me this season are Rodin and Virtanen.  If they end up in the 35-40 point range this team will have no superstars, but way more offensive depth this season to stay in most games.  An intriguing season ahead for sure!
