I think he will make the team on the 4th line but, I see Gaunce as a type of guy who can really move up and down in the lineup as well. Can't see him ever becoming a first line guy, but I think he has better than average hand, eye coordination, so I could see him occupying the front of the net on the second power play. Really hope he makes it! Me too. I see him top 9 this year, and some added minutes if needed. I just meant I hope dor doesn't get in the way of gaunce as far as amount of spots left. That's why I hope Etem is cut. still would prefer Ruttu who can also move up and down over dor. again just my opinion.

Was really hoping to see more from him coming into camp. It can be hard coming to a new team, mid season and having to learn new systems and find your place in the team, but look at how Granlund has stepped it up after a summer off and coming to camp ready to compete. Some guys can do it, some can't. Etem might just need a dose of whatever they gave to Baertschi last season.

Like the guy, but he always appears behind what's happening.

Never know Alf, he seems to be a really good skater and when he's on, seems to be really good energy, but lacks finish. Maybe just a case of his feet being faster than his hands and brain? I really miss watching Bure, when was the last time a guy had an extra gear like his and ability to do everything in that extra gear?
appleboy
The Canucks could have had Yak for a bag of pucks. He was traded for a conditional 3rd.

In all honesty, I've always said that McDavid's best comparable is Bure solely based on how his lightning quick speed matches his hands and hockey sense. McDavid is McDavid and Bure is Bure, but there's a reason why Connor is arguably the most exciting player in the NHL.

Those two players together aren't even remotely the same value as Kucherov.
guntrix
5 hours ago, VegasCanuck said: Exactly, he's an incredibly effective player. Sticks up for his team mates, will drop gloves with anyone in the league, skates well, kicks in the occasional goal. He's the type of guy who can inspire other guys by throwing a hit against the biggest guy on the other team and change the whole dynamic of a game. He's the type of energy guy you need on a team these days. The thing with Dorsett is that he's got a bunch of tools (like you said) but they're all average to mediocre. He's too small to be an effective fourth line punisher, he's not offensively talented enough to be offensively reliable, he loses most fights despite wanting to stick up for teammates, he doesn't have the vision to contribute with assists, etc. Guys like Dorsett I'm sure could be obtained through free agency. ahf149
I'm from Penticton where Stetcher played his Jr...I was talking to someone who know's Stetchers former bilet family. According to this person. Willie D skated up to Stecher during practice and told him that he wasn't supposed to make it this far. They fully expected him to be in the minors and Stecher is making really hard for the Canucks to send him to the minors. Stecher has a very real chance to make the team! MiloFrenzy
Mr Contract / L.Sbisa's, Last 2 yrs - 5 goals / 19pts - projected 4yrs - 10 goals / 38 pts = $378.000 a point , D.Sedin last 4 yrs = $28,000,000 / 76 goals / 224 pts = $125,000 a point. Canucks have some good replacement parts on Defense.
Primal Optimist
you would never tell a kid who needs all his confidence IF he plays for you that "he should never have made it this far" on the off chance that you ruin his confidence for opening night. It is sports psychology 101...so imo the buddy who knows a buddy who knows stetcher....at one step or another in the telephone game there is some stetching of the truth going on. No telephone game going on with what Willie said to Stecher. Pretty much a direct quote: Farhan Lalji @FarhanLaljiTSN ago Willie on Stecher: "He's made it so interesting for us," Told him on the ice today, "You weren't supposed to be here." #Canucks It was clearly meant as praise for Stecher and should only have helped his confidence. Basically Willie was just saying that the coaches didn't expect Stecher to be as good as he's been and that he's blown them away and exceeded any expectations the Canucks had. It's all good. No risk of psychological damage.
HockeyHarry
You just beat me too it^ Not sure what the penticton billit thing is about....I think your making up your own story as the WD talk with Stecher has been well talked about on 1040. i've been watching other teams play preseason games on NHL network and I can't remember preseason hockey being this good. The new generation of kids are amazing in skating ,energy and skills their pushing for spots on teams, the AHL is going to be really good this year. ahf149
Why would I make up that story? I'm in Penticton. I don't listen to team 1040 as we don't get it here...and I don't read these boards on a daily basis..is it really impossible that people know people who happen to be trying out for NHL teams? The Penticton hockey community is close knit. If you ever go to a Vees game ..everyone knows every one..it's not like Vancouver where you MIGHT see someone you know. You can go to a Vees game alone (which I do often) and see 10 people you know..all of them season ticket holders and all of them very in tune and aware of what our past player's are doing....I learned abut a tragic story of one of our past captains last night too.. So there is no reason for me to make up a story...you city guys have lived in the city too long
ahf149
It's not unusual that players keep in touch with their billed families...Stetcher was here for a few years...
73 Percent
Side note Patrick laine doesn't have a point in 3 preseason games. Wonder if he starts the season with the mooses. Meese? Mooooosse?
