Really? I haven't heard anything from either of them. That's why I looked up laine today. Found an article about how they shouldn't panic. I've read alot of those kinds of articles. Usually it has to do with the Canucks lol.

Meanwhile,  Keith's kid makes the Flames

that looks like a very good 2nd line.  even if bo is slide into the 3rd whole he's going to have a great offensive season.

teams may load up on Bo's line but I got a feeling baer and Hansen would put a lot of hesitation into that.

management seems to think granlund is ready for top 9 minutes so we may see Sutter on the wing at times.

Who is this Tom Nilsson and how has he managed to make it to final cuts without playing a preseason game?

That's amazing amazing forget the PTOS and the Guance and Stecher and Virtanen.

The fact this Tom Nilsson guy is on the team without playing pre season is mind boggling!

I agree Chip, its completely amazing amazing.

He is probably injured because he was never on line rushes in practice and I don't think they are allowed to cut a player that is injured.   He's on a two-way and if he is still injured come the regular season he will get his NHL salary as long as he is on IR and not the AHL one.

You do realise you could say that about almost any player. I mean who are these mythical players who are going to take Dorsett's place. I absolutely hate the mood on here where someone is being preferred just because he is young and shiny/new, even although he hasn't shown anything over a tough 82 game season.

Do you watch Dorsett every night? I doubt it.

I never once said shiny new toy. In fact, I can't stand that mentality. My point is and I am entitled to an opinion is that there are other players I would rather have on this team than him Personally I would prefer Ruttu and Gaunce And with limited roster spots and the fact I think they will keep Etem unfortunately If they do I would prefer to see Gaunce and Ruttu. Ruttu has an edge and minus last year can still provide more offense than Dor. Not sure why you have to be antagonistic and assume that I haven't watched all 82 games which I have by the way. I like Dor he is a great team first guy who sticks up for his players. We have guddy and tram for that now And both Gaunce and Ruttu have at least the ability to move up and down the lineup, Dor is nothing more than a 4th line player who misses the open net more often then he hits it. Have a great day

Yeah there is some real flexibility up and down the lineup, although I feel it more likely that Granlund would take burrows mins (despite being on the LW) than taking those those tough 2 way shift  away from Sutter which he excels at.

That being said I would expect to see Granlund receive more special teams time.

We do lack big skilled forwards as usual. Our top 3 in this category must be Virtanen, Sutter, and Etem.

So far as far as toughness goes, Dorsett provides a great blend of forecheck, and toughness but I think he would shine with a bit more support in this area. WD talked about what they ask of players going into a season (last year they needed more scoring from Bo and Hansen (see video on CDC homepage) and thus their 2 way game was effected. What position will they put Jake in this year? (Toughness?, Scoring?, Defense?, Progression?..etc)

The line combo (outside the Sedins) that I think clicked the most last year was:

Sven Baertschi -  Bo Horvat - Derrek Dorsett

What did you think?

Baertschi never was on that line.  It was Etem Horvat Dorsett that clicked at the end of the season.

Benning says Baer needs to play with skilled players - that's not exactly Dorsett.  Benning was kind of taking a veiled shot at Calgary and their usage of Baertschi.

Well I would love to see Gaunce and Ruutu too but I don't kid myself that either has proved enough to displace Dorsett. Etem - yes, Regretfully Burr - yes but not Dorsett imo.

I agree, but they committed to burr when they didn't buy him out. JB is a classy guy and don't think he would send one of our true canucks to Utica and displace his family. Maybe he decides the game has passed him by and he becomes some part of the coaching staff or something like that? My problem isn't with Dor. Just wwant to see Gaunce he has earned it the hard way. Had nothing handed to him and has improved every year. cut Etem problem solved  then were both happy I'm assuming you are not a huge Eterm fan either?

Firstly I'm a huge Gaunce fan (just have to look at my posts on the Gaunce thread in Prospects over the years) That said I have a dilemma with Etem. Is he the player who woke up to play some great attacking hockey at the end of last season OR is he the player who huffed and puffed but did little before that and who has looked drained in the PS (maybe the birth IS a valid excuse, who knows)

Anyway I just don't think he has been with the team long enough to be cut any slack on the birth so yes I see him being cut.

I also hate to say it but Burr is a shadow of the player he was. Nothing sticks to his stick now, his shots seem poorly timed and inaccurate and he appears more "frail." Coaching beckons.

If we want to play the best team available "at this time" then Gaunce, Ruttu, Virtanen and Stecher must all be in the first night line-up imo.

Should be or opening night roster:

Sedins / Erickson

Granlund / Sutter / Hansen

Baertschi / Horvat / Etem (until Rodin comes back)

Burrows / Gaunce / Dorsett

Ruttu   (until Jake's shoulder gets better....he is still hurting, obviously)

Edler / Tanev

Hutton / Guddy

Sbisa  /  Larsen

Tryamkin  /  Stecher

...Virtanen and Rodin down for condintioning stints in Utica.

I think Biega clears and Stecher is too damn valuable to not have around for the second pp, etc., until he starts to dominate.

Jake and Troy are AHL bound.  Rodin is not being sent down, he made the team but has a knee issue.  Looks like they aren't going to dump Etem for the moment.  He played better tonight as it started to get more NHL like.  I don't know if they sign a pto but I would think they want Skilles over Ruutu.    Larsen will get at max half a season to show.  I do not think he sticks.
