We'll agree to disagree.  Offensive ability aside, he simply can't play defense.  As far as I'm concerned, that's unacceptable for an NHLer.  Draft pick or not, we're better off with no chance of him being in the lineup.  He did absolutely nothing in camp to justify a roster spot.

Etem did nothing either. What is interesting is that both are on one way deals. Maybe they have been told that there is no money to keep mil dollar players in Utica. Beiga is the same , he will make his 600,000 no matter where he plays. Benning and Linden talked about Larsen all year and this would be a 100% change of direction.

I could see us claiming Seth Griffith too. Drafted by Benning and a former linemate of Horvat's.

Either way, I would be surprised if we didn't make a claim on someone.

I am going to have to agree with you now. If Rodin is out until Jan then they might be wise to grab one of these kids. It would be better then any of the PTO's. Pulkkinen might be a good idea. (or Griffith)

Stecher was much better than Larsen every time he stepped on the ice.

Vastly superior to Larsen.

Larsen was quite bad actually.

WD must feel left at the curb.  His job is on the line, especially if we get a bad start.  And he must want Stecher over Larsen.  This has JB written all over it.

Not going to argue.

What I'd be concerned about with Stecher would be a couple things :  can he do what he did in pre-season games vs every teams best roster?  Can he withstand the sheer physicality vs every teams best roster on a nightly basis?  Can he handle the volume of practice/games/travel after, let's be honest,  playing a very 'medium' physical league  with minimal games for the past 3 years?

I know some would say play him and we'll find out,  but I think both contract status and a small degree of depth at the position allowed management to make the call.

I'm certain that we'll see him in a Canucks uniform for a real game soon.

Skille had some good moments, but he also had some awful plays at their own blueline in each game he played in........he was terrible at getting the puck out of his own end.  Ruutu might not be an impact player, but he makes all the small plays that lead to bigger things.

I too wanna see Ruutu signed... he looks totally rejuvenated and ready to go! If we can get him for more than half a season at 80%, that's a huge bonus! I trust that JB sees his value more than Skille's to our team.

And cut Burr to make room?  How does Rutuu fit?

IF...

We're plodding along(late Dec), & hanging in with the fight to make a wildcard position(say, a little over .500 hockey). We'd grabbed/held onto extra bodies early on, Etem, a PTO & perhaps waiver-claim? Injuries start to mount, but we have a number of familiar names, who can come up & contribute. Such decisions will contribute.

Then for the season's back-9, we can inject a healthy Rodin, + 2 or 3 of the most deserving Comets(eg: Stecher & Virtanen), who are even more well placed in AHL standings, & seemed primed for a solid run.

Season could well be shaping for such occurrences. For both our Jan to season's-end, & preparing expansion draft(& coming 2017, summer's strategy), moves in early Oct should play a big part.

Cut Burr and Etem.... both of then can't contribute much.. just look at Laich who was once a real force as a 3rd C.

No way Burr gets cut and Francesco pays his $4.5 million salary to play in Utica. Sorry his actual salary is $3 million. Still not gonna pay that amount to not be on the roster.

We don't need checkers though, we need scorers.

Pulkkinen's numbers in the AHL show a player on the verge of breaking into the NHL. I would roll the dice on a player like him every time over a player that's simply a good 4th line checker.

meh...

Weal was pretty groovy in the A as well and he just got waived....

As long as Rodin is on IR they can keep Burr and Etem. Once Rodin is ready to go Etem will be the first to go. No way Francesco pays Burr $3 million to play in Utica.

I don't remember you talking about our owner being involved in hockey decisions.  I think Aquaman has been budging in since day one.
