Pre-seasons combinations

Hi guys,

Hockey is back! That was a long offseason.

Anyways, now that we are down to a manageable 44 plays remaining in our club for the preseason I am curious about what couple of combinations that you have NOT seen yet, would you like to see in the remaining preseason games, bet it a defensive pairing, or a forward line, and why.

For myself:
Olli and Tanev:

Following the buzz of Stecher's performance I started thinking of the possibility of Edler and Tanev being split down the road (maybe next year?). If Edler and Stecher were able to play well together and really mold, that opens up a partner spot next to Tanev who is our defensive king. I want to see Olli next to him in a pre-season game to see if he can open up a bit. Two very high IQ guys that could potentially down the road be a solid pairing. This is merely out of curiosity.

Alex Burrows - Brendan Sutter - Michael Carcone:
I read in the Sun recently that during last nights game Carcone had a corsi for of 80% which instantly made me want to see him with guys who are known for their two-way game.

Sbisa - Larsen / Sbisa - Stecher
I would like to see a game or two with these two playing alongside the most likely candidate of 3rd pairing left D. Our favourite Pizza. I want to personally see how these two handle themselves next to him near the end of the pre-season when teams are playing close to their final rosters.

So anyways, what do you want to see?

Baertchi - Horvat - Rodin

After seeing Rodin play last night I'd like to see what he can do with other skilled guys. That said if he's good he'll work his way up the lineup during the season but I'm just impatient and curious to see

Thinking of that I wonder if he would work with the Sedins. He's pretty small to do the board work that players need to do to fit with the Sedins but he looks to be able to make good smart plays in tight and being Swedish you know he's going to be good on the cycle.

Sedin - Sedin - Rodin

Baertchi - Horvat - Eriksson

Not bad

Possibly, but I'd like to be sure Tryamkin is actually good enough to beat of Sbisa for that spot.

Even if Tryamkin is slightly "worse" in preseason (only preseason after all - size also more useful in reg season) I actually think it makes more sense to give him about 50 games this year and Pedan the other 30 - letting them develop on the third pairing and also keeping them fresh, while getting some assets for Sbisa.

Sbisa seems to make the same mistakes as Tryamkin deep in the d-zone, but doesn't have the size to back him up. Also Tryamkin is better at defending against odd man rushes, which I assume we'll see lots of this year since that 3rd pairing RD will most likely be an offensive minded dman.

Burrows is the epitome, embodiment of a "Canuck" he's very respected and let's face it he's also on the decline, as a mentor player coach in Utica he can play there for years turning young players into perfect Canuck ready NHLers.

i think young guys on the Canucks have plenty mentors here. Utica Burrows would be amazing for Cassels and others.

also Burrows can say look what an undrafted ball hockey player can do if he works hard.

LOL Burrows is not going to Utica. Benning has specifically said that he wants him here in Vancouver because he's the embodiment of a Canuck and has taken all the young kids under his wing and pushes them. He's already practically a player coach here in Vancouver and there's no chance they're going to send him to Utica

There's more kids in Utica to player-coach....

There are some combinations that we know will work well already and should be firm for opening night:

Sedins-Eriksson

Baer-Bo-Virtanen

Hutton-GudB

Edler-Tavev

Miller-Markstrom

So to me thats an excellent start. All I'm waiting for now is:

1. who's going to crack the 3rd line

2. who gets beat for a job on the 4th,

3. if Sbisa loses his spot to Tryamkin, and

4. If Larsen loses his spot to Stecher.

Rodin has a great shot, although that move and pass from Stecher was actually more impressive than Rodin's goal imo. I feel like Etem's the guy that may lose out here if Rodin continues to impress, because Hansen isn't going to lose his spot, nor Burr or Dorsett.... so that starts getting pretty croweded down there on the bottom 6.

Who said pre-season was boring? ::D
