The top 5 is ridiculously close right now, and has been for weeks. Can't have one bad night or you may drop 4 spots.

The top 5 is separated by 54 points right now.

This is an interesting year so far in that respect. While there is still over half the season to go, this time last year @D-Money was running away with the President's Trophy.

I think the biggest, and most pleasant surprise, is that @winterhawks went from finishing with the 10th worst record last year to currently leading the league. Did NOT see that one coming.

Signing:

Frederick Gaudreau and the New Jersey Devils have come to terms on a two year contract worth $1.6M ($800k AAV).

On behalf of my client, I would like to thank GM @BM24 for taking a chance on Frederick. He's excited to join a team that looks poised to go deep in the playoffs.

You are not the only one who was suprised. We believed with our added depth we would be able to push for a playoff spot but leading the league was not within our expectations. Now with Galchenyuk, Foligno and Helm hurt our lead has shrunken and it's going to take a full team effort to stay where we are.

Yeah, it's crazy. Most of last year was pretty much a 2-horse race between me and @JE14. A lot more strong teams this year - lots of GM's have been making great moves.

Damn, this season is going horribly for me after I had such high hopes.

Connor and Strome both got sent down, Little was injured until like, two weeks ago. JT and Benn not doing as well as I had hoped.

At least Howard, Arvidsson and Ristolainen have been bright spots so far this year.

We have a trade to announce...

To CAR: David Cotton

To MTL: Alan Quine

Thanks to @HowYaDrouin for getting this done in such short order. When I first joined the league, Alan Quine was the very first player I signed, as the prospect pool in Carolina was absolutely bare. And while he is a very affordable roster player, I'm having difficulties trying to find playing time for some of my players, like Quine. I wish him well in Montreal.

As for David Cotton, I have had him on my radar for a long, long time. Leading up to the 2015 draft, I had 13 draft picks, and I thought for sure that I'd be able to snag Cotton in the 5th round. Out of all my targeted players in that draft, he was the only player I was unable to get, as HYD snatched him up in 3rd round. Since then, I've been trying to figure out a way to get him.

While I tend to overvalue my picks and prospects (don't we all), I believe that, in a few years after moving on from Boston College, Cotton will be playing on what I hope is a greatly improved Hurricanes team IRL.

Happy to add Frederick Gaudreau to the organization. We hope he can add depth in parts of the NHL season as injuries occur, and perhaps help in the playoffs down the line as well. He also adds depth to Albany, which we are always looking to bolster.

Thanks to Monty for quick negotiations. Always makes it easy.

We would like to place Frederick Gaudreau on our active roster. @Nail

We have a trade to announce...

To FLA: Clayton Keller, Brandon Sutter (35% retained for 2016-17)

To NSH: Sonny Milano, Michael Raffl, FLA 2017 1st Round Pick

Woah..

The team with currently the 4th overall pick trades it. That's ballsy..

Got faith in your team or dont like the draft this year ?

Very ballsy indeed. However, I like the move for Chael. There is still a lot of games left in the season for him to move in the ranks. Last season, around this same time, Swede took over Anaheim and made some ballsy moves to bring them from a bottom feeder to just outside the playoff spot. I see a few similarities with Florida now. Trading for Schneider and Gaudreau will definitely help him make up some ground.

Keller is a 7th overall - not really that far off of that pick's pedigree (with some serious upside) - I see this as more of a trade forward,

and a Sutter for Milano and Raffl deal - I think it's a fairly balanced deal.

Always got faith in the team!

To answer the other question, no I don't. The crop this year feels really weak to me. I feel like Keller will end up just as good as anyone in the 2017 draft. As @oldnews mentioned, this was more of a trade forward for us.
