That was the rumor a Chicago-based blogger, Ryan Brandell of Barstool Sports, tweeted earlier today, and it’s since been validated by the biggest insider in the business, TSN’s Bob McKenzie. According to McKenzie, the ‘Hawks have indeed had talks with the Oilers about Yakupov; however, no deal is imminent. McKenzie went on to suggest that if Chicago’s youngsters (Tyler Motte, Vincent Hinostroza,Nick Schmaltz, Alexandre Fortin, Ryan Hartman, etc.) can’t adequately fill all the offseason departures at forward, then perhaps they’ll look closer at Yakupov. Follow Bob McKenzie ✔@TSNBobMcKenzie All that said, depending on how things proceed for Hawks, Yakupov is player they have had interest in and may still have some interest. 11:37 AM - 6 Oct 2016 8484 Retweets 8181 likes Yakupov, 23, was the first overall draft pick in 2012, but has struggled to fulfill expectations. Last season, he only had eight goals in 60 games. In March, Yakupov’s agent, Igor Larionov, suggested a “fresh start” with another team could help. TheRussianRocket.
If the Hawks get him, he'll become a consistent 50+ point producer with those talented players and coaching. ...his value has nearly completely diminished. Low risk high reward for any team. Still don't know why Oilers never drafted Murray that year or let CBJ trade up Edit: guessing if this happens, Chicago sends back Pokka or TVR+McNeill
Art Vandelay
I have a feeling, if Yakupov has actual defencemen passing him the puck and legit center like Toews, that he can become a star player. Edmonton was Yakupov's problem IMO
Nex is my ex
Yakupov is a bust lol he's terrible defensively and offensively.
firestorm238
I remember seeing him at the WJC in Calgary a couple years ago, and thought that he looked like the second coming of the Russian Rocket (speed-wise anyways). He might be worth a shot here...

Even the Russian coach said something like it's addition by subtraction.
Apple Juice
Having Yakupov on the Hawks would be lethal. This could work out in Chicago's favour in so many ways. I know this doesn't work out but imagine seeing this line.. Panarin-Kane-Yakupov
Blue Jay 22
Chicago would expose him to the expansion draft though. Don't see them doing this unless its for dirt cheap.
250Integra
Could be interesting to see if they split up Panarin / Kane to balance out their scoring. Kane-Toews-Hossa Panarin-Anisomov-Yakupov

When you've got Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Malkin, Datsyuk, Tarasenko, Radulov, Nichushkin, Anisimov, and Semin (just to name a few), I don't think you'll need any more goal scoring forwards

I like Yaks, and would love is we tried to get him, and shouldn't the player take responsibility for their own poor play?
Ossi Vaananen
They'll get him, and they'll get him dirt cheap. If it's McNeil going the other way, I think the Blackhawks are fine with that, as Motte/Schmaltz have quickly passed him on the depth chart. Damn Chicago, always finding a way to reload. Combine that with at least 3 defencemen better than Edmonton's best defencemen, and I can see Yakupov getting 50+ points no problem. Wasn't at all comparing the centers, but rather complimenting Toews. Maybe the grammar made it seem like I was discrediting McJesus.

But less than half a season playing with McDavid is not enough time to develop chemistry. JustABandwagoner
If hes dirt cheap why not we try? Or is it cuz we are in same division?
Blue Jay 22
Should also add, there is a 50% chance Yakupov gets waived if a deal isn't reached by Edmonton. My guess, if Edmonton retains salary, they will get maybe Erik Gustafsson or Viktor Svedberg. They certainly aren't getting Pokka, TVR, or Kempny.
