The Panthers are going through a transition period. We are going through what we labeled as a "re-tool", but I think it is now safe to say we are going through a "re-build", with the trading of our #1 Mrazek. The Panthers have accepted that the Atlantic Division is strong and a very tough decision to compete in. So for now we are going to build for the future and contend in a couple years time! Our future looks bright! Especially in the area we needed work on most on the defense. We feel that these guys can play with the big club as early as this season.

The team is relatively the same from last season. A few bottom six additions and a new backup goalies leaves me feeling great with the depth of the organization. Especially at forward. I am still looking for a defense first top 4 defenseman. I am willing to move Kale Clague for it. Hopefully this year we can reenter the playoffs and put up a better performance than last year's first round exit. Nikita Gusev is also available for picks and/or prospects.

2022-2023 Power Rankings

Western Conference

Pacific Division

1-Vancouver-Reigning Western conference champions after a Cinderella story trip through the playoffs as the 8 seed. Prime aged forwards with skill and size, balanced blueline of puck movers with shut down partners, and one of the best goalies in Thatcher Demko. No David story this year, they project to be a Goliath in the Pacific.

2-Las Vegas-On the other end of the playoff seedings last season, the Aces won the President's Trophy last season, playing strong from beginning to end. the team has 4 of a kind on offense with Nathan Mackinnon, Nolan Patrick, Max Domi, and Dylan Strome terrorizing goalies. Every defender had at least 30 points last season as well, showing their ability to jump start the play to the forwards. Ilya Samsonov being solid but not dominant looks like the difference between Vegas and Vancouver.

3-Los Angeles- A retool in the past few seasons has fans in the Staples Center optimistic. The core of Kopitar and Doughty remain, and highlight the team's strength down the middle. With Vasilevski in net and the continued development of young blueliners Charles Schwab and Timothy Liljegren could help the Kings make a push.

4-Edmonton-This is a team that always appears strong on paper, but just cant find the right combination to capitalize on it. Face of the franchise Connor McDavid will lead the favorite in Alberta, alongside fellow number 1 overall pick Gaelan Love, with the stonewall of Cory Schneider in net. Depth in scoring is a strength with players such as Jake Wise showing to be promising while also affordable on the books, leaving the Oilers with just under 5 million in cap space to work with if any additions are made.

5-Calgary- This team has been defined by the simple philosophy of outscoring the opposition. Wave after wave of forwards can score for the flames, highlighted by Johnny Gaudreau, Sam Bennett, and Matthew Tkachuk aided with skilled defenders to get them the puck. The loss of Sean Monahan hurts, but the biggest question is between the pipes. Jacob Markstrom appears to be the starter, yet has been a journeyman through his career, never cementing himself as "the guy" for a winning team.

6-Anaheim-The Ducks have been built front to back, but work still needs to be done. Kyllian Scheidt was hyped as a potential face of the league level player, but hasn't had a "wow" season yet. Noah Nash had a breakout season, but with only those 82 games under his belt, his sophomore season will be closely watched to see if he continues, or was a flash in the pan. A young and unproven defense is a question mark, but the biggest issue is the anchor of Harri Sateri in net, taking up 6 million in cap space, while only playing at a backup level.

7-San Jose-The struggles in the Bay Area have been well documented, but there is reason to believe in progress this season. The young forward group is establishing itself and building chemistry to spearhead the attempt to get out of the bottom of the standings. Austrian youngster Marko Hadwig looks to be a building block for a blueline that has desperately needed a leader to build around. Russian Andrey Aleko is promising, but still raw. If San Jose was a stock, I'd buy now and prepare for the dividends to pay off in the future.

Playoff Predictions: Vancouver & Vegas battle for the top spot and potentially number 1 seed in the west. Los Angeles and Edmonton fight for the final guaranteed entry into the postseason. Edmonton is the dark horse of the division, if everything clicks they could win the division. Calgary stays in the wildcard bubble all season, while Anaheim and San Jose look to the future.

               OFFSEASON REPORT

Last season NY Rangers number one goal was to make the playoffs, but failed to do so as Rangers missed the playoffs by 1 lousy point. We had to decide if we wanted to do a "full rebuild" or "go one more time", as owner and GM came with a conclusion that we should go all in one more time and add some pieces around the players and just need to get over the hump.

Well as the GM of the NY Rangers, GM Zach Parise went to work during the off season. GM Zach Parise re-signed  Forwards Evgeni Malkin , Nicklas Backstrom , Joonas Donskoi, and goaltender Marc- Andre Fleury and defencemen Michael Del Zotto. " We decided to bring back these players because we needed them for another run at a playoff spot, re-signing Fleury was a must, we believe if we had Fleury start of season we could have made the playoffs, so he will start in goal in the start of the season". Also, released Andrew Shaw and Nic Petan to free agency.

There were rumblings that Justin Faulk and Travis Hamonic were made available, sure enough those rumours became true. Many offers came along for Justin Faulk and Travis Hamonic, but GM Zach Parise said Faulk will be the ideal defencemen gone.

There were 3 significant offers for Faulk, and GM Zach Parise got an offer that he couldnt refuse and finally traded Justin Faulk to Minnesota Wilds, inexchange for Physical Defensive Defencemen Nikita Zadorov, a talented and skilled Kasperi Kapanen and defencemn John Moore. NY Rangers believe they got a great amount of talent for the future. If infact Rangers do not make playoffs this upcoming season they believe they have a great young core to build around.

GM Zach Parise, was not done there, as part of the future movement, he also made another great trade with the San Jose Sharks. GM Zach Parise sent Jacob Markstrom, defence prospect Aleksandrs Hvrostinins and a 1st for defencemen Ryan Murphy, defence prospect Kier Johnston and goalie prospect Igor Sheshtyorkin. The team bolstered their defensive depth on the team while acquiring Ryan Murphy. GM Zach Parise commented on the acquistion of Murphy, "Murphy brings great offensive talent from the backend on the team and we believe that he will be a great asset on the team for years to come".

On to FREE AGENCY, GM Zach Parise was busy and quickly signed highly young touted swede Tomas Elofsson. "He is NHL ready, and has fellow Swedes to play with in Nicklas Backstrom and Mika Zibanejad as he will gain experience from these great vets and develops into a great two way player", said GM Parise

GM Zach Parise wasnt done there as he also signed forward Josh Bailey, Kevin Hayes and defencemen Keith Yandle.

"Bringing back Kevin Hayes was vital for us as he brings depth down the middle and he can also kill penalties which we were lackin last year", says GM Zach Parise. He also commented on bringing Keith Yandle," Yandle brings the veteran presence to our backend and we believe he has something left to improve and hopefully helps us make the playoffs". He also was looking to bolster his AHL team and signed great players in Jasen Harkins, Filip Chlapik and defence prospect Anton Bjorkman.

Overall, We believe NY Rangers Offseason was a success and hopefully getting to the playoffs happens this year!

2022-2023 Power Rankings

Western Conference

Central Division

1-Chicago- Nothing surprising to see the Blackhawks up top, with their sustained success year after year. Steven Stamkos and Artemi Panarin are two of the best forwards in the league and lead the offense. Every line looks able to score, and depth on the blueline is prevelant in Letang and Lindholm who are each legitimate number 1 defenders for any team, but paired together in Chicago. Jonathan Quick remains in net and consistently puts up solid performances.

2 -Dallas- Though Nashville has traditionally been the sparing partner for chicago in the playoffs, Dallas appears to have retooled and entered the fight. Adding Sean Monahan makes an already potent offense more powerful, with every man in their top 6 being an absolute threat to score at any time. The reworked blueline could solve some issues as Dmitri Kulikov and Mark Pysyk were acquired via trade, as well as Lasse Helenius signing in free agency to help support the forwards by playing steady defense.

3 -Nashville- As long as the core of Johansen, Forsberg and Josi remain, this team will be a contender. Seasons of trading future assets for playoff bulking up is starting to show stress. After Pekka Rinne left, a huge hole in goal was obvious, but Carey Price has been acquired to give them another star in net. The cost however, is a combined 8.5 million in cap space taken up for goaltending, which leaves the forward and defense group shallower than they otherwise would be.

4 -Minnesota- The Wild are in a transition period of moving on from the Parise-Suter era, and the next group who will lead. The addition of Justin Faulk and the continued development of Ivan Provorov bolster their blueline in a division, and conference that is loaded with offensive talent. Freddy Andersen is a solid, but underwhelming option in net and could be the biggest issue with their playoff aspirations.

5 -Winnipeg- Who is this team? Are they the Stanley Cup winners from just a few seasons ago, or the historic dumpster fire in even more recent history? Much of the core from their Cup run remains, but there are so many questions as to how the pieces will fit together to expect the Jets to contend in a division of known winners. Matt Murray personifies this confusion as he has been solid when the team in front was terrible, but inconsistent when the skaters appeared to have gotten their stuff together.

6 -St. Louis- Similar to Winnipeg, this is a team that had previous success but now is trying to figure itself out. The forward group is potent, and the addition of Gabe Vilardi gives the a potential number 1 center to make plays for mesmerizing wingers Vlad Tarasenko and Kris Strickrott. Defense is a huge question mark as their returning leaders are more focused on offense rather than their own zone, and it appears Tommi Dahlen will be thrust into a prominent role straight from Sweden at age 18. Goaltending isnt a question mark, but rather a black mark as Corey Crawford is well past his prime, and Ville Husso had a huge drop in form last year, plummeting from his promising play only a year before.

7 -Colorado- If nothing else, the Avalanche will be exciting to watch, as they have tons of offense, but also huge holes on defense. The team appears to be rebuilding after trading away players such as Eric Johnson and dmitry Kulikov. This is bad news for Brandon Halverson who is locked into a 5 year deal at 2.250 million, yet hasn't backed up the hype that he could be a future starter. Lots of question marks, but if the right deals are made to bring in support defensively and in net, could climb the standings.

Playoff Prediction: Though this has to be ranked numerically, any of the predicted top 4 could win the division. All 4 look to be safe bets for the playoffs, with seeding really being the only thing at stake. Winnipeg and St. Louis look to fight for a wildcard spot, but will most likely find themselves in the no mans land of below the playoff bubble, but not securing a good chance at a high lottery pick.

I have decided that my time and insterest are dwindling. At the retirement of Ovechkin, I too will be stepping down.

I'm interested in your team if you guys can't find another GM.

I'm already in two fantasy leagues but I think this sim league looks fun.
