Makaramel MacKhiato
Found that this put into perspective what it's like to be traded in the NHL, especially for young guys who've left friends and family to go to a different city. Guys from overseas especially feel it more than ever, and with fans chanting to trade you it must be especially tough. Money can't buy happiness, some things are more important. Hopefully this helps us give hockey players some slack.
Green Building
I'm actually surprised that Yakupov became that attached to Edmonton.
canuckledraggin
Deadmonton claims another victim. Congratulations on playing your way out of that town and into a playoff situation.

In a Vrbata sort of way I believe he did. That much losing has to take its toll on some of these guys. Instead of putting up points and skating your way off the team. I think guys sometimes play just poorly enough to get themselves traded. I think a 3rd rounder was a steal for this guy.

Well he did get drafted to there and stay for years. Sounds like he's basically redoing the whole adjustment period he did when he first went to EDM. I hope Vladi takes him under his wing. It must help as least a little to have a fellow countryman speaking your language in the locker room. Nail speaks great English, but maybe that can help him feel more at home. Ghostsof1915
Well Edmonton has won the first two games without him. The Blues are also 2-0-0. Maybe it's a deal that everyone wins?

Yeah whether or not he was content with his situation you get used to your surroundings right? Your routines and such, people you hang out with and places you go; it would be awkward for anyone, anywhere.
Cramarossa
I heard in the last Blues broadcast that Nail's parents were actually in Edmonton to see him for his birthday, and since he got traded the day after he immediately had to leave and they didn't even get to see him play. How they do trades is rough: you travel to a new city (sometimes in a new country) asap, with no time to look for a place of your own and no one you know. You end up cramped in a hotel room (that's what Loui did this preseason with us) and know nothing about your surroundings, yet are expected to immediately begin working with a team full of guys you've never met. Nail's pretty young...if be terrified if I were in his shoes. I wish him all the best.

I'm pretty sure there's translators, consultants that they bring in to show you around, get you set up in a condo. That then there's your routine of gym, practice, hockey, travel, doctors, nutritionists, trainers. Then there's promotional things like sponsors, charities, that take your time. Unless you live in the city during the offseason, during the season you are too busy I think to dwell on stuff. Thinking about it, Tort's for a guy from the US was probably more xenophobic than any European player here.

Wonder if the two have met before or are acquainted? If so hopefully the two of them could hang out during their free time, and maybe with Paajarvi too (they did share time in Edmonton if I'm correct) and whoever else is down to hang with N-64. It's totally true, being in a new place where you don't know anyone can really make it difficult, especially when you've got nothing to do and no one to spend time with after your work is done there. Hope he can settle in and bond quickly with the team and really flourish in St. Louis, both as an athlete and an individual.

I remember seeing an interview Vladi did when he was discussing the importance of how people like LaPierre took him under their wing when he first arrived in St. Louis and how much it meant to him as far as making him feel at home and a part of the team. He's a very high character man, so I could see him doing the same for Nail.

Yeah, that really sounded like it was a depressing time for Bure when he first moved here. Plus take into account that was well before social media too. Bure had to feel pretty damn alone. He wasn't that alone. Maybe after Larionov left?

Aircool
Why does everyone assume that just because people are both Russian that they like each other? Like Jesus... I guess you are all friends with every Canadian you've met (provided you are a Canadian.) Look, people are the same wherever you go, and every individual has types of people they like. Yes, sharing a native language/culture can provide you with commonalities but that doesn't guarantee you anything.
