Holy cr*p, Todd McLellan does not mess around!  http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/10/16/we-cant-handle-prosperity-yet-mclellan-rips-oilers-after-ugly-loss-to-sabres/

‘We can’t handle prosperity yet’ — McLellan rips Oilers after ugly loss to Sabres

After two wins (and 12 goals) against the rival Calgary Flames to begin the season, the Edmonton Oilers came crashing back down to Earth on Sunday — at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres.

Afterward, coach Todd McLellan ripped into his players with a very straightforward assessment of their play, following a 6-2 home loss that included goalie Cam Talbot being scored on from center ice

Talbot has now given up 13 goals on 99 shots faced in three games.

But his play wasn’t the only issue facing the Oilers.

“We looked like the Bad News Bears,” said McLellan. “We had guys falling all over the place. We didn’t execute. Our passing was poor. Positionally, from the goaltender to the (defense) on up to the forwards, no one was ready to play.

“From each and every game, you learn lessons. We learned a lesson that we’re not quite ready to take a step. We can’t handle prosperity yet. We just got kicked right between the legs and we deserved it.”

As for Talbot’s play, the coach seemed to stick up for his goalie, but admitted he “struggled immensely.”

The long-distance goal didn’t look good. But at the time, that put the Oilers down only one goal.

“Would a better team recover from that and help him out? Because I saw him stop 23 (shots) the other night in Calgary and save our asses,” said McLellan.

He was also very critical of Benoit Pouliot, who took a pair of minor penalties in the first period versus the Sabres, after taking three minors in 12:14 of ice time versus Calgary on Friday.

The 30-year-old Pouliot — who also scored Sunday — was benched for the final two periods.

“We have some foundation or fabric things that we have to continue to fix as an organization. And stupidity is one of them,” said McLellan.

The Oilers were supposed to enjoy a day off on Monday.

McLellan has cancelled that. Practice is on. And it could be one McLellan uses to send a message.

The players agreed to cancel their day off, however the nhlpa is looking at fileing a grievance, as scheduled days off can not be cancelled for discipline reasons.

Also- WTH is the coach thinking-3 games in and he is already losing it on a young team that is 2-1? His whole rant should have been for the players only-singling out Pouliott and calling him stupid is not going to prolong his shelf life.

Perhaps tarsands are toodamndirty to extract? Change name/logo asap.

Couple more beauties by Talbot(like yesterday), & he'll inherit SaloDubieScriv-status. New bldg will be reduced to lipstick on a porker.

Scary group of young off prospects; but I guess they have already frittered away a couple? :^)

Heard the NHLPA has a problem with him cancelling a day off and implying the stupidity of one of his players...  BooHoo.

Yup. Welcome to 2016. Pussification of society continues.

The NHL and NHLPA signed a legally binding contract and it is up to both sides to ensure that agreement is kept.

Welcome to the real world.

McLellan, his holding players openly accountable and the backing of a semi competent President/Management group are what will push this team forward more so than mcJesus

3 games in 6 nights?  This is a team full of kids under 25 years old by and large and highly drafted at that.  There is no excuse to lose to a team that has paced you for failure in the standings; missing its best and brightest star to that level.

McLellan is a beauty

McLellan was right to rip them a new one. Too much complacency in that organization for too long.

He is wrong to cancel practice though. Saying that purely from a contractual obligation standpoint. Breaking practice schedules won't get them the two points back.

Thank you for the welcome! Very kind of you. Excited to experience it.

Take 3 penalities in 15 minutes one game. then take 2 in 12 minutes your asking to be benched lol.  We are trying to correct issues with the culture here being stupid is one of those things.  (along those lines). loved that quote.
