Line Chemistry

I really don't see why everyone always insists that Horvat should be playing with Baertschi.  Baertschi is a guy who thrives on a lot of short passes like the Sedins. He looked great with Granlund in preseason.  They are both that kind of player.  I see them as Sedins 2.0 just worse of course.  That being said Hansen is the best line mate for both the Sedins and Granlund/Baertschi.  The closest thing we have to Hansen in style of play is Sutter.  Sutter can take the face offs for Granlund.

Horvat and Louie look like they play a similar kind of game.  They like to score off the break while going to the net.  If Horvat is going to inisist on drag moving the entire team he needs a guy on his line that is going to end up around the net when he is doing that so he can also have a pass as an option. Baertschi is always posting up around the boards and just watching.  Who knows what skille and Virtanen are up to.  Skille looks so much slower than in the preseason.  Virtanen looks scared and tentative.

Burrows and Dorsett actually look great as a 4th line.  They work really hard and that rubs off on the other players.  They are effective defensively.  I don't expect either to score 10 goals but they are 4th liners so who cares.  We need our 2nd and 3rd lines scoring a lot more.  Blaming dorsett and Burrows for a lack of offense is pretty ridiculous.

sedin sedin hansen

baertschi granlund sutter

gaunce horvat erickson

burrows zalewski dorsett

Rodin slots in over gaunce once healthy.  I think him and Erickson can play either RW or LW.

Edler and Stecher clearly have more chemistry together and compliment each other better.  Hutton and Gudbranson works.  Sbisa and Tanev is fine too.

We have nothing to lose so go for it.   Why we have a GM who trades away goal scorers (MCCann) when we basically have none is a mystery to me.  This year we could end up being last and there isn't half the talent to draft that there was last year.   Still angry about us winning those three games in California.   How dumb can we be - we have nothing and maybe we could have got something.   Like Laine - gee what a draft that would have been.   Oh well just venting.  I have seasons tickets and only been to one game this year and am feeling like I don't care about going to many games.  Ouch . . .   Thanks for letting me vent.

The OP is right when he says that Baer-Horvat are not the best fit because of their respective playing styles.

Tomlinson was explaining that WD wanted Granlund with Baertschi because Granlund is seen as the best passer at C after Henrik and that he shares the puck, while Horvat always has to remind himself that he has wingers.  Baer needs the puck and looked more like himself last March when he played in an offensive role away from Horvat with Granlund/Vey as his Cs - he was back to making plays to set-up his linemates.  WD likes Horvat in a defensive role where he can use his power/speed to score off the rush - he doesn't really need a creative playmaker on his line.  He just needs a big winger that can go to the net and wait for the pass or the rebound.

Why do you dislike Baer so much?

Is Baer the elite talent we need him to be?

How do you understand this quote by Daniel from earlier this month?

“I look more at Sven’s game because I’m a winger myself. I see that (drive) in him. He’s a guy I can see really take off this year. To me, Sven is a more skilled player than I am. So I watch him, too. I might not ask him about it, but I’m watching him to see how he does things. He has all the tools to be a great player.”

Wow!  Thanks.  Let's get him going.  I guess that's WD's job to get Baer with a sniper.  Vertanin is kind of our only sniper.

I like him plenty fine.  Horvat aka Mr. Dangles is the issue.  Hard to complain about a guy with 3 goals, but he is also a centerman with 0 assists.  With how bad he has been on face offs, maybe we can move him to RW.  I have seen a lot of players benched over the years with his style of play in the offensive zone.  He gets away with it because we don't score much, and it works sometimes.  It definitely hurts the play of his wingers like Baertschi.  Baertschi said himself that he earned a spot on the team last year by adapting his style of play to fit Horvat.  That just seems odd that our most skilled offensive player according to Daniel is adapting his game for a guy who was touted as a shutdown centerman out of juniors.

Horvats style of play resembles Kesler in the offensive zone.  Kesler was impossible to find wingers for because he thought he was Pavel Bure when he had the puck.  It's also a style of play that is exciting to watch, and it makes it look like he is trying really hard.  Easy to be a fan favorite playing that way.  Ryan Kesler is one of my all time favorite Canucks, I am suceptible to it like everyone else.  its just not a good fit for Baertschi.  Erickson kills penalties, and he plays quite well defensively 5 on 5 as well.  He is comfortable going to the net and playing off the rush.  Give him and Horvat 20 minutes a night shadowing the oppositions best line, and we will get the most out of the players we have.

Is that how much Kessel's getting paid? Wow, that's a lot for a 3rd line winger. Never win a Cup wasting money like that. Oh, wait...

He wasn't brought here to be a 3rd line winger. Pitts was all in for the cup and still are, completely different situation.
