Going onto the Canucks forums today, I was astonished on a thread talking about the "best member on the team". I saw comments saying Sutter, Bo, and even Markstrom - even saying he's proven to be the  #1 goaltender and it's his job to lose. But not one Miller reply. Give me a break.

Over the past few years, Miller has been ridiculously solid for a team that, for a while, didn't have the defenders to support him. His first year here, he was one of the best 5 goalies in the league that year - period. Him getting yanked early, therefore hurting his save percentage - and his injury really derailed his hype. That and the fact that Eddie Lack played fairly well. But that year he was top 5 wins and top 3 in shutouts, while missing the better part of 2-3 months.

Last year he played extremely well, along with Markstrom, but we had no team behind it. Goaltending was great for us last year... but odd man rush after odd man rush will eventually get to any goalie.

This year, here he is again, starting well as ever, but is overlooked by Markstrom, and really by everyone. I know his deal is a long term deal, but he has absolutely earned it.

Maybe it's the undeniable goalie controversy Vancouver loves, maybe it's the terrible media that has pushed away some great players from this team. Despite that, I am frankly annoyed by the lack of Miller love. He has played great for us.

Just think, we could have rode with Eddie Lack instead of signing Miller originally. Who knows if the Sedin's produce after that terrible 2013 year playing with mediocre goaltending. A lot could have been different.

Thoughts?

I like Miller and his contract.  He is definitely a legitimate #1 goalie.  I also believe that his confidence and calmness rubs off on the team (and that's a good thing).  However, I don't think that we should extend his contract.  I think Markstrom and Demko would be a good tandem going forward (they can compete with each other to determine who is going to be #1).  Miller has performed well and done what is asked of him but I don't see him as part of our future.  He is however an important part of our present and that's what matters.  We want to win now and later!  GCG!

I'm a huge fan.

All I can say is I'm shocked, after how we treated Cory & Luongo (not calling him the short version of the name which BELONGS TO THE CITY OF VANCOUVER... not Roberto... Lu has to be reserved for Erikkson or Sbisa) that we ended up having one of the best goalie tandems in the NHL again... with different goalies.

He's as solid as it gets... former vezina winner for a reason. He's definitely not as elite as Luongo was... slightly lower S% and GAA over his career ... but he didn't have the fortune of playing on easily the NHL's most dominant team for the better part of 4 years... if you don't believe it go count the wins from 2008-2012.

I think this tandem can lead us to a cup this year.

He has done what he was was signed to do. Provide solid goal tending while we wait for better things to arise in Marky and Demko. Saying he is one of the most underrated Canucks of all time is a massive stretch. He has been good, nothing more nothing less. In comparison to Lu and Schneider he is, in my opinion, he is a massive step down. If he was a one man army stealing multiple games a season then I might be more inclined to agree with you, but he doesn't constantly do that. He is constantly pretty good, and that is why he signed him.

Maybe I'm slightly bitter because it took me a ton of convincing to get my girl watching hockey. The selling point was how awesome she thought Lack was, and since we lost him it has been a huge battle to get her interested. Luck for me she thinks Guddy is a huggable bear and likes Marky (girls love back ups I guess), so progress is being made.

Miller has a 93% save percentage, and people are saying he's lost his job.

Sedlbauer would eat whole meals between periods and still do his thing, Butcher was a chain smoker who donated every waking moment to helping underprivileged kids in an age where nobody cared about that stuff or "optics"

All while making slightly above a middle class earnings and paying for their own expenses.

Can you remember any games Miller stole?  I know there's been a few.  But I can't recall any specifics.

Luongo stole entire seasons for us.

There was that stretch in 2015 when Miller had three shutouts in a row. I think we scored low in those games too.

His first year here Miller saved a lot of games for us, specifically at the beginning of the season. I also remember him stopping back to back 40+ shots for two shutouts in two nights.

Last year he did all he could. He wasn't put in the proper position to save games. He made many huge saves last year, but our tea, was horrid.

this year he stole he Calgary game for us.

I don't find him either under-rated, or over-rated. He was signed to a team in transition who could afford his cap with the lack of expensive contracts we had 2 years ago. He's done a fine job of helping our at times abysmal defence corps and light forward depth keep the puck out of the net.

Miller came as advertised. As for re-signing him, it really depends how Demko looks, and how Marky looks this season. If it looks like he's ready to take over then we just need a half decent backup for a season or 2, or until Demko is ready, and we get some more cap space back for any number of things that might become available. In a perfect world Markstrom shines, and Miller would be happy to stick here as his backup at reduced salary. Whether or not a 37 year old Miller will feel that way next year, who knows.
