Mathew Barzal
This year is shaping up to be an absolutely incredible lineup of rookies. Thought we could use a thread to discuss the influx of talent. 1. Auston Matthews Spoiler The favourite. Number one overall pick from last year comes in and takes the league by storm, he will have a solid shot at the title surrounded by the young talent of the Leafs. 2. Patrik Laine Spoiler Probably the most intriguing rookie this year. The swagger and cockiness of a vet with the talent to back it up. 3. Zach Werenski Spoiler A lesser known name among casual fans but the kid has already won Tort's over and is already the front man for the Jacket's top pairing and first powerplay unit. 4. William Nylander Spoiler The one that got away? Potentially. Nylander looks to be stuck like glue to Matthews and the duo look absolutely dynamic together. 5. Sebastian Aho Spoiler The third member of the Finnish triplets. A proven offensive talent who should find himself right at home on the 'Canes. 6. Jesse Puljujarvi Spoiler Kid's got talent in spades, but he'll be in tough to compete buried in Edmonton's plethora of talent. 7. Ivan Provorov Spoiler The most recent of the exciting young Flyer's defensive prospects to make the jump. Provorov can do it all and you can be sure he'll be getting fed minutes on the Flyers defense. 8. Jimmy Vesey Spoiler Yet another punchable face enters the NHL. And this time he has a backstory to supplement his face. Kid will need to walk the walk after talking himself out of two organizations to land in New York. 9. Mitch Marner Spoiler Yep, Leaf forward prospect number three. Marner is an unbelievable talent and will put up points no matter where he finds himself. 10. Travis Konecny Spoiler Second cousin of our own Bo! Kid has looked impressive to say the least so far with the Flyer's and has shown instant chemistry with forward Couturier. Honourable Mentions: Pavel Zacha Dylan Strome Mikko Rantanen Mathew Tkachuk Kyle Connor Michael Matheson Travis Konecny Jakob Chychrun Joel Ek-Eriksson Matt Murray Nikita Zaitsev Anthony Beauvillier Tyler Motte And of course... the darkest of all dark horses that ever was... Green Building
Way too early to do anything but guess blindly, but barring injury it's going to come down to Matthews or Laine.

Nuxfanabroad
NICE thread idea. Next yr was planning to read Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky..this thread will likely be a longer, epic yarn. PS-Maybe Stecher comes outa' nowhere? :^)

smokes
What? No love for Stecher? According to CDC he's the next Bobby Orr.
-AJ-
I'm guessing Laine. Rodin could get 80 points in 60 games though. Count on it.

Beary Sweet
Matthews, Laine, Konecny as nominees at the end of season. Matthews wins the Calder
WHL rocks
Laine, he's just too good. He'll challenge for the Rocket Trophy. Not only is Laine great at scoring goals and his shot but he's a good player all over the ice. Great at reading the play and will become a very good passer as the season goes along. He's already a good playmaker, he'll get even better. Laine will win Calder. Mathews will be right there as well but I pick Laine.
Toews
William Nylander to me has been the most consistent rookie so far. Both Laine and Matthews have had their moments but they fade in and out of games. Nylander is the older more seasoned pro and IMO can handle the grind of 82 games. 250Integra
Matthews will win it because he's from Toronto.
higgyfan
Way to early to say. Many of those guys (from Jrs leagues) will drop off by February. My guess would be Nylander; only because he's had a couple of consistent years in the AHL. It will also go a long ways to support the around here.
