[Report] Canadiens to target defender via trade, send Sergachev down

Recommended Posts

The shootout is the most prim example of the lack of dynamic talent is on this team.

Everytime we go to a shootout I know we are going to need some luck to win this one.

You need one, two or even 3 guys on your team that can push back the D on any given rush creating open ice and a breakdown in there defensive structure. (Bo is getting better at this).

Bure in the 90's is an excellent example of 1 dynamic players added to a dump chase team that could take the whole team to another level.

1 dynamic player is not going to vault us to contender, but it would allow for a more versatile and less predictable offence.

Just look at what Jonny G did for the Flames and he's a pip squeak but he forces D on there heals.

The Habs, as stated by Elliot Friedman during HNIC, are looking for a top four Dman to take minutes from

Shea Weber.  They would want Tanev, who plays the right side.  Sbisa plays the left side.

Tanev for ?

LD: Emelin, Markov, Beaulieu, Barberio
RD: Weber, Petry, Pateryn, Redmond  - Sergachev is also RD although he can play LD

Weber and Petry are their two top RDs.  They are not paying Petry 5.5M to play on the 3rd pairing.

It's LD their weak side and Beaulieu is rumoured to be available.  Markov is slowing down and in the final year of his contract and Therrien spoke of having to limit his minutes.

With a solid LD they can cut the minutes of Weber on the PK (Nashville wanted to do that too) and it's less strenuous on him with a better partner.

I don't see them wanting to play Sbisa on their 1st pairing.  They are looking for a LD to play with Weber.  Lately it has been Emelin.

This. On our team, a puck moving, top 4 LD that could play with Weber would be spelled: Hutton.

Any body still interested?

They don't have anything to offer us to make it worth trading Hutton

Exactly. If they do make a move it's HIGHLY unlikely to be with us.

Edler could be a distant possibility (if he'd waive) but he'd likely pair better with Petry and still leave Weber's partner lacking (though would help with some of the heavy lifting).

I know everyone thinks Montreal is dead set on Sbisa but this could be more along the lines of Winnipeg and Anaheim. You know, teams with a surplus of top 4 defenders not #7's.

Fowler, trouba will cost too much, but if they went all in they will have to give up a roster player bc win and Ana are try to build not rebuild

So your argument is with Friedman then, because I'm echoing what he said.

I agree.  Keep the Twins, Bo, Sutter, Stecher, Gudbranson, and Hutton.  Trade the rest for picks - Prospects.

How 'bout Baer? I think he's looked a lot stronger this year even if it hasn't shown up on scoresheet.

I don't think so.  A top 4LD helps Weber.   More solid pairings overall - the Petry pairing can then play more.

I see, so the Habs have either option: Edler or Tanev.  Now, how do we get Edler to waive?

They're going to be cup contenders for next several years... Unfortunately can't say the same here. Don't think it would be as monumental a task as we might think.
