In my opinion It's never too soon to look at draft.

I think it's a toss up between Liljegren and Patrick, depending on if you want a forward or a defenceman. Rasmussen is the most interesting player to me because he has a lot of the same types of skill/tools that Kopitar had when he was 17/18 years old. I can see him being a true franchise type of player in 5 years.

To the OP, are you already writing the season off as another loss despite being only 10 games in?

This season SHOULD have been looked at as another loss from the very outset of the off season, but ownership refuses to do what is necessary, content to toil in mediocrity under the illusion that what we have is good enough to get more than 2 home games or at minimum 2 home games in the playoffs.

They are perennially chasing the unattainable, and in the end do more harm than good when it comes to helping our team grow its young prospects.

There's a clear distinction between a mandate to be competitive, and knowing you're not, but trying to be competitive and having the coaching gameplan reflect that.

I had the Canucks as a lotto team before the season started - mainly because I didn't think they could score. So far that trend looks true. I'm not sure they finish last, but I like their chances of having a 5 % chance or better of winning the lotto.

The season was written off before the puck was dropped for the first game. Not sure why people are undecided or confused about this.

Take a look at the roster and the depth. That's all that needs to be highlighted.

It's not negativity, its just pure reality.

i LOVE how people are excited about a guy even Bob McKenzie is not calling a franchise center in Patrick Nolan because he's a center.  because centers aren't found all through the draft or anything.

You know, let's ignore Timothy Liljegren because he's a D and D aren't sexy.  Because...we need flash.

Seriously, if Liljegren is available, you take him.  If you don't know why you haven't looked.  Nolan might look sexy and all and obviously we need a true 1 c.  But we've also never had the potential of drafting a potential Norris candidate like Liljegren.

In a draft IF you have a chance to draft a !b center or a possible Norris candidate you take the non sexy pick every time

I think its too early into the season to decide which would be the best option for us.

Just because McKenzie mentioned Nolan may not end up an elite #1 center doesn't mean that he won't develop into that - especially considering his draft season is still before him.

As of right now I would take Nolan. This team needs top-end center potential, not another defenceman.
