Tired of hearing what a great drafting genius this guy is....

Jake was a terrible pick..

Juolevi...we'll see.

Demko,Boeser have never recorded a single point or won a game at the NHL level.

I keep hearing that over a decade ago he picked Ryan Miller(0 cups)....anyone else ?

Jared McCann ?? 1 G in 12 games

Am I missing something ?

Again....please keep responses to those who have been "successful at the NHL level"....

Players targeted as acquisitions....

Linden Vey

Derek Dorsett   (stupid contract extension)

Luca Sbisa        (stupid contract extension)

Nick Bonino

Adam Clendenning

Sven Baertschi

Brandon Prust

Brandon Sutter  (stupid contract extension)

Emerson Etem

Marcus Granlund

WTF !!!

How does this guy still have a job ?

This is just negative thinking. Benning isn't the Canucks problem. Those cupboards were pretty bare when Gillis left and in a couple of years we've got Tryamkin, Larsen and Stecher playing, Demko and Boeser are developing and will hopefully be here soon. Juolevi was a good pick. It just kind of sucks right now because he's still in the OHL, while some other players in his draft class are playing in the NHL. Good D take years to develop. Juolevi is a great D and should be with the team next year. Look at Dubois, 3rd overall forward sent back too.

Marchant, Boychuk, Kreji... guys like that

I'm sure there's more, but I hate the Bruins and don't feel like research

but then his first year he drafted mccann while boston got pastrnak the next pick.. sounds like it may be someone else in Boston who's the good scout

What's the point in even bringing up the guys just drafted the last couple years? Of course, we'd all like our top prospects to step right in and become key players right away, but the truth is most players you cannot evaluate until they've been around a few years. Jake & Jared at least are NHL players already. Using Jared's 1 goal this season is kind of pointless. He's playing about as much down in Florida as Jake is here. If you're using these 2 guys in your argument, I don't think Jim's done much better than a lot of GM's from the '14 draft. There's still 13 1st rounders from that year that have yet to play a game in the NHL. They all must be busts 2 years later? Three others have a combined 21 games in the NHL. Busts, too?

This isn't a video game people. Not all draft picks become stars overnight and you can't change your roster with the snap of a finger. Hard to believe so few people learned patience as a kid.

I made a similar point in GDT earlier. Someone broght up his great drafting,, Iol.

What great drafting.

JB is a bit above average in drafting (might be my homer glasses thinking) other wise he might be below average. As far as judging talent he's done a poor job, Including trades and UFA signing. .

Rookie President, rookie GM rookie coach. what do you all expect other than failure. They are all learning on the job.

Don't understand this chart...

To simplify ...lets compile a list of great Jim Benning draft picks....

the years in buffalo the OP highlighted (in red) are total games played of draft picks taken that year. As you can see much better than pretty much any of the Canucks years (wow that is awful) which is why we'd probably have been praising any new GM that came in here
