Philly , Our IDEAL Trade Partner(discussion)

Recommended Posts

They need cap space, 'tending & RH'd, competent D. We can certainly help'em. They could become contenders with the right kinda' deal.

WE need almost any/everything..but especially youth.

Van: Tanev, Markstrom, Sbisa, fwd prospect like Z or Grenier

total- about 9.5 million cap-hit

Philly sends us:

Konecny (Bo's cousin could form a great 1-2 C punch for yrs to come)

Sanheim/Morin ..I'm unsure which D prospect we could land, if we got their good young C. They've STILL got Ghost & Prov on the left side, anyways.

Neuvirth..Questionable gt has been stinking up the joint(negative value, oft injured too!)

Andy MacDonald..(lousy 4 more yrs of 5 mill - absolute neg value)

Raffl..servicable 27 yo winger, reasonable hit for 2 more yrs.

Total - about 9.8 million cap-hit

Taking on a couple of their lousy contracts would really help Philly(in the present)

Who cares if we carry MacDonald's 5 mill? We need to add youth, & have plenty of cap opening up over the coming yrs.

When he's off the books, we'll be starting to trend upwards.

After this, would also trade Edler for more youth.

4 years at 5 million is a long time...but I guess if we get a d-man prospect with it it is okay. I don't think we need Raffl, but if Philly wanted to move him I would take him.

Who would we be exposing on defense for the expansion draft?

Checked..he played 28 games last yr..guess he needs to play 42 this season?(MacDonald, that is)

One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2017-18 and b ) played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.

So I think he would just have to play 40 this year.

Now, would Philly be willing to give up that much youth for Tanev and the loss of Andy (the other parts are minor compared to these)?

Konecny is doing well in the NHL so far with 6 points in 9 games, so I could see them being hesitant to trade him. As for the d-men, I think they'd be more willing to give up Morin.

Markstrom is a good add for Philly as well, so that may actually be enough for them to say yes.

Get a little bidding-war building on Tan-man, & who knows what zaniness may unfold?

This is true, although this would be an unorthodox deal to make at the trade deadline (a lot of parts involved compared to the usual TD deal), so it would probably be more likely to be an off-season bidding war if this deal came up.

Yeah, just appears now the two teams have disparate needs & surpluses. Could easily scratch each other's backs.

Hate to shut this down but our team won't trade Markstrom anytime soon. Miller expected to retire soon or at least not be a #1. Demko is probably at least three years away from being pro. And then you've got Garteig and bachman. Neither NHL caliber players let alone starters. So who's in net the next few years?

I agree it's a mighty tough cost.

In truth, I haven't seen enough of these kids(namely Konec & Sanheim; relying on hearsay). Threw this 1st proposal out there for the sake of discussion.

As Markstrom(like Tanev) is something that either team certainly needs, the return would have to be very enticing. Scouting/coaches would have to trust Demko & Gartreig. Perhaps have Miller stick around(cheaper contract) for a yr or two?

No doubt, there's risk here too.

Benning recently said that Tanev is not being traded. But as far as trade value goes, it is actually pretty fair. Seems to benefit both sides. Would hate loosing Marky though.

that is right but like every year a GM says "I am not trading so and so"the next few days that player is traded!

I agree he will not trade a young gun unless he gets someone like a Landeskog

Please don't get rid of Markstrom Jim...

Sorry, but Demko already turned pro.

As for the op's deal - no matter how badly you want it to make sense for either club Phi is not trading their future  (Kony ,  Sanheim ,  Provorov )  for what you're suggesting .   I don't even think our most valuable assets  (Boeser ,  Demko , Joulevi ) could get us those three assets.   Provorov may be the best offensive young D prospect in all of hockey right now.
