Played more games and gotten more points in the NHL than I ever will. Most us don't even get that chance. 131st overall in 2012, not like he was expected to be McDavid.

Oh he's by no means a bad player.  He'll have a great career in the AHL or  Europe.  Will more than likely continue to get NHL games for a while as well.

But he's one of those players who needs to be scoring to be effective, and he just doesn't really have the talent to be a real offensive threat in the NHL.

I'd want them to take Nakladal, if they're going to work the PP around the point they might as well get a guy who can really blast it (neither Larsen nor Stecher really have the hard shot to make such a setup effective).

Danny - Hank - Sutter
Edler - Nakladal (both point-men can really shoot, and if they get to walking the line I think the can really get the goalie moving).

Granlund - Bo - Eriksson
Hutton - Stecher/ Larsen

No thanks to Griffith, he's both small and slow.

I can't imagine why benning won't try and get Griffith, if Seth passes waivers I will be heavily disappointed

Can't say I'd be all that disappointed myself if we don't act on this opportunity, but I certainly agree there's harm in filing a claim and giving Griffith a shot.

We need bodies, both in Vancouver and Utica. Adding a player to the Canucks roster would allow us an option to return Chaput to the Comets (and they need him). Although I've liked Chaput so far so I could see keeping him around and sitting Skille back in the press box for a few games while Griffith gets a trial.

He brings a lot of hockey sense, puck skills, and playmaking ability. These are definitely areas where the Canucks team could use some help.

Griffith is certainly small, and for his size, he lacks the "plus" skating you'd generally want to see. But his vision and anticipation are pretty high level, which does compensate somewhat for his average level skating.

And he has some development potential remaining at age 23. It's true that he's running out of time to prove he belongs in the NHL, but he's also had some injuries over the past few years (broken hand, MCL sprain) that might justify extending his window a little.

At worst, a claim would mean he could get an audition with Vancouver and possibly adds some needed skill to the lineup. If he can't stick, just roll the dice on waivers and possibly (albeit unlikely) he clears and can provide some real scoring punch for Utica.

And there's always a chance he scores another goal like this one:

Utica could use his scoring

If Seth Griffith gets claimed by the Canucks, he can't go to Utica. It's either Vancouver or another trip to the waiver wire where he could be claimed back by either the Maple Leafs or Bruins? (Not sure if the rule is last team that claimed him or team he started with originally at the start of training camp).

Either way, he's the kind of player the Canucks SHOULD be taking a chance on. Sure, he's small, but he's got a gift for getting points... and as others have said, he was picked by the Bruins when Benning was still around so there is familiarity there. At worse, Griffith plays 5-10 games here... doesn't work and gets sent to the waiver wire only to be claimed... at best, we find a young guy who can provide some secondary scoring on the 3rd line. The one thing Griffith has done since becoming a pro is putting up points and that's what the Canucks need... they need a one dimensional point getter to fill out this lineup of two way defensive "studs" that lack all kinds of offensive talent.

And as others have pointed out, he was a teammate of Bo Horvat's so that chemistry could help Griffith get a head start in the Canucks organization if he's claimed... as marginal as that is.

My bad, I thought under certain conditions a player can report straight to the farm, can't remember when tho lol.

Only if a team re-claims a player that another team had previously claimed from them can that player be sent immediately to the AHL.

For instance, had Emerson Etem been re-claimed by the Canucks when the Ducks exposed him, the Canucks could have sent him to Utica without any problems....

So the only team that could send Griffith right to the AHL is the Bruins if they are lucky enough to get a chance to re-claim him... but that only happens if all 29 other NHL teams pass on him... and with Griffith, my gut says the Canucks take a legit look at him and (probably) put a claim in on him. They literally have nothing to lose.
