Stecher Value Huge: Trade Option?

With this team struggling for goals Benning was on record recently saying that teams are calling him about prospects, including Juolevi and Stecher but Benning rejected the offers.

While along with others I would love to have more young defencemen on our roaster, this team needs scoring more than anything. Maybe now is the time to get maximum value for Stecher as so many people around the league are noticing his play. We can get a lot for him, and I think it could be a great move considering we got him pretty much free.

Thoughts are welcomed!

I'll give U this, every player in the NHL is tradeable if the price is right.

Stetcher's value here on CDC would be equal to a Marner, Nylander, Monahan, Drouin, Larkin, Domi, Draisatl, Ehlers, etc.

Do U really think those players GM's are trading for Stetcher? Answer is NO...

So what exactly would U be willing to let Stetcher go for cause anything less to us just doesn't cut it. So no deal for Stetcher. Stetcher is staying in Vancouver. See it was simple to figure out on your own....

Stecher is awesome. He will be with us for a long time

That being said I would certainly move him for these players, I mean who would pass up that chance???

Did U not get what I WROTE?

Those are the types I said it would take to get the deal done here. I also said that those players GM's would hang the phone up before JB could finish saying any of those names...

SO again like I said NO DEAL PERIOD.........

No one is passing up that chance, the chance is NEVER happening...

SERIOUSLY the kid scored the tying goal yesterday afternoon and you want him out?:picard: he has solidified a spot in the top 4 alongside Edler. this makes Tanev even more expendable but i'd rather hang on to him for depth. but saying to trade him after just a sample size of games is just absurd

Maybe I wasn't trying to disagree with you. That happens in these boards too you know.

Reading the replies from my fellow CDC members it is clear to me that many are thinking with their hearts not their heads on this topic.

I want to mention that I never said Stech was not a valuable asset to the Canucks right now, on the contrary it is because he is such a valuable asset to us he can be even more of use to someone else. Does this make sense?

Canucks dont need a high scoring defenceman because we dont play that type of a game, we dump and chase we dont score off the rush. The Canucks have a pretty solid defensive core, Stech is a nice bonus not a crucial piece to this club and never was.

On the contrary however another club in the NHL who is desperately looking for a upcoming high scoring defenseman would be happy to let go of one of their top 6 winger for us to immediately boost our offense. A top 6 winger will bring more points and goals than Stech ever can from the blueline, it is this fact that I am trying to emphasize by suggesting we trade him.

I trust people would reason with me now that I outlined my point clearer.

It still doesn't make any sense for the many reasons already outlined.

We've got a young, local kid who is playing solid minutes and contributing in multiple ways, and we want to discuss possibly trading him 7 games into his NHL career? He's also someone whom the fanbase is already falling in love with. This is not someone who you think "trade high" about. In all honesty, I'm not so sure his value would be that high at this point anyway. A goal and 2 assists in 7 games looks great, but very tiny sample size. I'm sure a lot of GMs would feel the same, and while many maybe interested in acquiring him because of the potential he seems to have, I'm not sure exactly what they would be offering that would warrant a trade.

What exactly would be classified as "maximum value'?

Horrible thread.  I am not sure if anyone else mentioned this or not.

We signed Stecher out of the NCAA.  One of the benefits players have going to the NCAA is they can basically play with whatever team they want.

Stecher decided to use this ability to sign with his hometown team............that we then trade after a handful of games in the NHL.

Horrible optics

I'm not sure CDC  wouldn't blow up - Stetcher  is here  until he proves himself not a fit for this organization.  He, Bo, Granny  are the highlights of this rebuild so far. If we move anyone I hope its a veteran player to make room for more youth.  This rebuilding  is a painful process and we are just going into year 2 - we're in for the ride. Hang onto the kids never mind trading them for a better season this year - it will only prolong the agony

So give away a piece of the future for a band aid?
