Give him a year to mature. He's got all the tools from the neck down, maybe he just needs to grow up a bit. Its not a knock or an insult, mental development in kids can take longer sometimes.

I would love to, but my mind is already made up. Any player who got bumped off of McDavids line (see WJC) and then cost Canada a gold medal when it was his time to shine due to immaturity is a bust in my eyes.

But then any poster who disagrees with me will  most likely have to wait 5 years to see this immature punk "develop"

He is going to cost JB and Wilile their jobs, these days any top 10 pick should at min have a work ethic. Looking at McDavid, Eichel, Ehlers, Nylander, Ekblad ETC ETC

This kid is a bust and has a bad attitude. I lived with Horvats struggles because he actually had a good attitude and work ethic. All reports about Jake indicate he is another 3rd line grinder, which we already have enough of.

I don't see what the big deal is. If Jake goes to Utica and Green demotes him to the bottom 6 or cuts his ice time' then I'll start worrying. In the meantime Jake gets to play for a crappy team for big minutes under a head coaching developmental messiah (according to CDC); it's a win-win for everybody. At this point I'm sure Jake just wants to play a regular shift.

Man you're a hard nut :P

I dunno... my daughter is right around this age, some of her buddies are great, others are.... well, frankly, clueless. Its amazing some of them can dress themselves and find a bus.

Maybe what sets the Eichels apart is they were lucky enough to have their maturity develop earlier?

I agree that some of the onus needs to be placed on Virtanen and his willingness to work hard and commit to the plan for him.

Having said that, he is still just a kid and one that has had a ton of pressure heaped on him to live up to his draft status in what looks like a bleak Canucks future so far.

I think ink they made a mistake not sending him back to junior last year. Then they made another mistake not sending him immediately to Utica this year and letting him play tons of minutes in a key role.

There is enough blame for this situation to go around. Desjardins and Benning deserve their fair share too.

I just hope he finds his place and isn't ruined as a player. He needs to just prove them wrong about him now with his work ethic and commitment. That's on him to do.

And it took him two games (of not playing here) to get his stuff?  Something is fishy.

Yup, there is something 'off' about this whole JV situation for sure.  I wonder if we will ever get to know what's going on, but it can't be good.  The rumor from the so called insiders is the owner is involved.

So you're not buying to my mental maturity theory? About Jake, not mine.

Well is that not the point?

Out of JB's first year first round draft picks we traded McCann, and all other players picked around JV are outperforming him by a wide margin.

This organization could not afford to screw up this badly, now we are watching a slow team get pounded for 7 goals at home.

There is no excuse in this day and age for drafting an immature kid like JV, millions are invested in player development and scouting. Apparently the "character" JB professed about has not materialized because I still watch the same heartless team every game besides Dorsett.

GL JV, hope you become a PF, but it will probably take 5 years before you realize you are a scrub of a player who could not even make it work with McDavid. Enjoy 3rd line minutes in the bigs bud, and keep listening to Bieber.

That's exactly what sets the Eichels/McDavids/Matthews etc. apart.  They mature early and take the game seriously at a level usually reserved for already pro athletes.

If you aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem. Firing Desjardins won't be a magic tonic. This team is just untalented in many ways. Having said that, keeping Desjardins will not improve things either. His system is not a good fit for this group of players. So either Benninv keeps Willie and gets rid of a whole bunch of players did ones who will fit or he gets rid of Willie and gets a coach who can build a system around what he has. At this point someone will take the fall. It's always the coach before the GM.

In my humble opinion, the development of the players is far more important right now than keeping a lost and sub-par coach.

Willie just isn't a good fit. He's stubborn to a fault, and frankly hasn't earned any right in the league to be that stubborn. He's lost the room.

I completely agree.

I don't buy into it. I think Willie is the wrong coach for this group. But after 3 coaches in 5 years the coach killer rep of the core group is still going strong.

Until the Sedins are gone and new and passionate leadership takes over, it's Bill Murray Groundhog Day in Vancouver.

Agreed. The Sedins are merely coasting at this point and spouting cliché in hopes of managing their final contract years in relative peace. Little do they know.

Maybe what they mean by "getting his stuff" is getting ALL OF HIS STUFF and moving to a new team.

Jake was drafted 6th overall and maybe this is why there are so many expectations for him to excel. Maybe he should've been drafted 20-30, but JB sees something in him. Are we being impatient? or is Jake a bust?

My hope is that reality sets in for Jake, he takes the opportunity to channel his anger into his game and develops into a top 6 power forward. There's really no rush with him. Until the Sedins are gone, it's probably best he stays away from a losing environment and gains some confidence winning in the AHL.

this team is turning out to be the biggest joke in pro sports.0 cups, trades neely trades loungo for nothing and continues to pay a million year off the cap till 2025,second to worst team with no scoring help at all, gets f**ked by betty man once again for the 2nd pick, laine should be a canuck.at least they'll finish last this year and get the 4th overall pick and ruin someone else's career.owners suck giant D hiring scroterella against MG's advice, hires another rookie GM to go along with the rookie coach and president.go back to buiding high rises you absolutely suck at building a hockey franchise.this team is so f**king bad its like they're doing it on purpose.maybe the BSman wants to move the team to seattle after they chase every last canuck fan away for good.

definitely sink or swim time for the kid , he probably never thought in his own mind he'd ever be sent down, being gifted a spot last year. i realize he's said he has to pick up his play ,but that might only be him realizing that he had to say the right thing versus actually having enough self awareness about his own sense of entitlement ,which his play reeks of !
