Muslim Teacher Told "Go Hang Yourself"

A female Muslim teacher was left a note in class telling her to tie her headscarf around her neck and "hang yourself with it."

Mairah Teli, 24, who teaches language arts at Dacula High, said she feels the note is in reaction to Donald Trump's victory in the presidential race.

Teli said she believes the “children feel safe making comments that are racist or sexist because of him."

A spokeswoman for the local school authorities in Gwinnett County, Ga., said in an email that the district is "doing all it can to identify the person who wrote and left this note."

Teli, who grew up in Gwinnett, suspected it was from a student. She said the school community had worked hard to comfort her.

The incident comes amid widespread unrest across the U.S. sparked by Trump's election victory.

That is horrible. Anybody that has learned anything about world religion knows that the Muslim faith is a peaceful one, arguably more peaceful than mainstream Christian religions. I went to a Catholic school and thus Religion was a requirement up until 12th grade. While the majority of the curriculum focused on the bible, morality, and the history of the church, there was always a part dedicated to world religions. I think now, more than ever a world religion class should be mandatory in high school curriculums. It eliminates the ignorant population

Nothing to do with trump, people have always been and will always be racist. Trump just a scapegoat

The blame isn't on Trump. But you have to acknowledge he did pander to this section of voters who were racist and hateful, etc. Now that he's been elected, they feel like they have free reign to say whatever they want no matter how disrespectful because, you know, screw political correctness now that Trump's been elected.

At no point should these comments be allowed.

Why didn't the kid say the stuff in person, instead of writing in a note? People feel the need to exercise the freedom of speech, but don't want to face the consequences.

Parents are at fault on this one.

Maybe because she wrote the note to herself.  I have no respect for her politicisation of the event.

When in junior high, a very bad boy made a puppet to look like his math teacher (a younger blond female) and he hanged said puppet in effigy from the cord of the pull down screen.  Is what this student wrote about the teacher's faith, or about a kid being an idiot?

I can't agree with you that Muslim faith is totally peaceful. It's like any other religion. It's a wide spectrum. 1.6 billion muslims on the earth ranging from peaceful to ISIS level. People can argue that ISIS does not represent the Muslim faith but how can you argue what they think they are fighting for? If they fully believe they are doing what their god wants them to than what is the difference? Who are we to say how their scriptures are to be interpreted. The same thing applies to the christian bible and how it is interpreted in a million different ways.

They have strayed away from the true meaning of Islam. They are fundamentalists. There is a major difference.

I agree, but they think  they are, which is the problem. I'm not not sure any of these religions really have true meanings. You don't need a religion to raise kids/people to be kind, and caring. My point is that they think they are doing the work of their god. So that's where I see a problem with that. I know that most of us are normal peaceful people but when they are screaming god is great when they go blow some $&!# up and kill themselves that concerns me. I know this is a complicated subject and I don't have all the answers, but I am mainly disagreeing with your statement of the whole religion is in fact a peaceful one, and when so called muslims act out and it no longer fits your narrative you can't just say they aren't muslim. This applies to every relgion/faith.

I'll guess the student who wrote and left the note - his/her parents probably voted for Trump. The gospel of Trump filling households across the country, the children watching/listening to what their parents (and more so media) are saying. The US is divided, people's true colours are being revealed. It's gonna get ugly.

I hope you see the irony in your insulting post.  Mother Teresa once while begging a very wealthy man for money for orphaned children, had that rich man spit into her palm.  She pulled that hand back, and while extending the other hand she said, " thank you that is for me, now can you please spare some money for the children".

If this was the first story to ever come out than maybe you have a point, but the fact that stories like this have existed long before trump shows that it really has nothing to do with him.

I'm kind with Clam on this. Why did this have to reach news outlets.  Why did the teacher have to involve trump.  All it accomplishes is segregation to a greater audience, it would seem there is a great motive behind reports like this.

Growing up i had a (native) classmate accuse the (white) teacher for being racist for giving him a bad mark on an assignment he didn't even do,  He then told the teacher he was going to kill her dog.  That didn't reach media, the school handled it in house.  And good thing because had it reached media, all it would have done would portray a bad and unfair image among native students. One bad kid shouldn't encourage a stereotype of others. just like this article is trying to do towards anyone that supported trump.

clam believes that racism doesn't exist because he hasn't experienced it first hand. I am not even exaggerating, he literally said that.

boys tend towards more physically violent acts. If it was a girl she probably would have told her to take poison. But yah, I did "ass-u-me".
