Any hunters on this board?

There are a few folk here that eat wild meat from time to time, might be a couple of hours to get the type of info you are asking for.

I don't know about deer size up in the area formerly known as The Queen Chartlotte Islands, but I do know they are small on Texada Island ,off the Powell River coast

Just wondering if anyone has been up to Haida Gwaii? Before all the animal rights slide in here, this is harvesting food for my family. Just looking for experiences if any. I have heard the meat is delicious but the animals are on the small side (hence the 15 bag limit).

If you drive through comox I bet you could get a mule deer to jump in the back of your truck.

off island residents 5 deer annually ,island residents 10 annually ,haida residents unlimited for those unaware deer in haida gwaii were introduced in the early 1900's and are pretty much out of control, and are dwarfed 1 deer would yield approx 15 to 20 lbs.

I don't hunt, but I have been many times, and there are an abundance of small blacktail, hence the high limit and extended season for residents.  Go to Haida Gwaii to see it's magic and experience the wonderful community.  It's not going to be a cost effective way to feed your family, but it's still well worth the visit.

Do you ever get over there?  I guess it's still not very easy even from Prince Rupert.

Where are you seeing that, new regs? My buddies just took 15 less than a month ago.

I guess it could be 15 between them but I am pretty sure it was each.

Every year you see a Deer hobbling down the road with an arrow sticking through it's leg from somebody trying to snipe dinner in his back yard.

That's gross

however I've actually never seen that.  In fact I'm actually shocked how few I see hit on the roads.  The island highway definitely claims a few but not as many as you'd think.  And, considering there seems to be as many deer as senior citizens in comox I can't even recall seeing one dead in a ditch (deer that is;)).  Perhaps they get cleaned up quick.

They do get cleaned up pretty quickly.

My folks had a baby deer die in their front yard last year from some sort of illness, I believe they called the town of Comox and they disposed of the carcass within a couple hours.

You live in Comox or Courtenay?

I guess you call it east courtenay. Not on the city side of courtenay.

roadkill story like yours.

when I lived in Squamish there was a hit cat across the street.  It was rank.  Eye bugging out and everything.  I threw a towel over it as no kid should see that and there are lotsa kids in that hood.  Anyway it was a holiday long weekend. I called the city about it and they actually came within a couple hours.  I was shocked.

maybe they've changed ,,but either way what ever the limit is it wouldn't be hard to get it , [pretty sure its 5 each for off island residence , thats what it used to be.
