Management has a very good card up their sleeves

College Free agents I believe will become the bread and butter of a successful franchise moving forward.  NCAA is definitely taking note of the Opportunity to play in Vancouver.  It was capitalized because over the last two seasons a pretty good AHLer would've been an injury away from being next up for the Canucks.

Even though we're in a sad state of affairs, Jim Benning has stated on 1040 last year that we are consciously trying to provide and market the opportunity when you suck   to come in and get a lot of minutes to the college free agents.  They are having more and more success in the NHL.  Don't think that the players aren't paying attention to the best guys from their own league and how they're doing in the NHL.

In any case, I believe that our luck with Stetcher is not purely down to him being a BC guy but rather Benning managing our group categories well and having enough guys in the "expendable" category that can make room for someone that has the potential to break out in the NHL.

Until/unless the Canucks are willing to go full rebuild and stop trying to band-aid the anemic lineup with overpaid vets picked up on trade or on the UFA market, they will not be able to keep any promise of handing out big minutes to NCAA free agents.

Stecher is leading our team in minutes so far tonight...  my bad, 2nd on the team.

If we had a worthy player, he would have either Skille's or Chaput's spot on the team.

So who's our next 1st line center we'll pull out of that particular sleeve? And isn't every other team also connected to that same sleeve?

Most other teams don't have the flexibility that we do to get College Free Agents in and get them playing within half a season.

You speak my language on so many levels. This is spot on.

Stecher grew up in suburban Vancouver so JB had a huge advantage over the other 29 teams in getting him to sign with the Canucks.  The kid probably grew up pretending that he was Trevor Linden while playing pond hockey.  It doesn't take a Bowman to connect those dots.

Stecher has also earned his playing time.  He's capitalizing on the opportunity that he was given.

*edit* Just continued reading the rest of the thread and noticed that others have pointed out the same thing.  Like I said, it doesn't take a Bowman to figure it out.

All of the non-playoff contending teams in the league have the same or better flexibility than the Canucks do.  Instead of leaving those spots open for new young talent, the front office wants to fill those spots with player veterans like Evander Kane.

I truly hope this doesn't happen... This is not the solution to the problem.

There is no quick fix solution.  A full rebuild is the only proper way to go at this point.  Bringing in Kane, even if he behaved, would only prolong the agony.  Aquaman just doesn't want to pull that trigger because of the fear of the financial hit he would take.

Canucks management's hand does not look that strong to be honest....

I couldn't agree more. This team needs to blow it up and actually rebuild.
