I agree with the other folks here - JB should pick this guy up. Move Miller to Dallas and this kid can back up Marky.

IF Miller did waive to go to Dallas, either Niemi or Lehtonen gotta be coming back. They're not going to carry 3 goalies at a $16.4 cap hit. Somebody would have to go, so we wouldn't be claiming Hammond if they were to happen.

Yes exactly. Claim his ass and then trade him.

Can't trade a player you pick up off waivers without offering him to everywhere team who put in a claim for free first. (Within the same season that is)

This is worth re-stating. Of course, if we think we could platoon him with Marky this year then trade him next year in order to make room for Demko, then sure, that works.

If we trade Miller to Dallas, they'd have to include one of their goalies back to us. Then we're stuck at three again and it kind of defeats the purpose.

Someone could pick him up, but they'd have to have the cap room. It's not a given he doesn't make it through.

With Bachman leaving today's Utica tilt(pulled something) they certainly should give this a hard look.

How do they determine the order of teams, for earlier dibs on any waiver claim? Is it standings as per beginning of each wk?(Curious/thanx, if anyone knows...)

Our 4th string goalie is hardly a reason to pick up a 4 million dollar backup.... *oops 1.35 million*

The order is based on the points/game ratio of each team that day.

After the first month, it's basically the reverse of the current standings. So the worst teams get first choice.

But how would claiming Hammond help us, particularly in Utica? He can't be sent down there if we claim him, and Markstrom requires waivers too so we won't be sending him down to help Utica. Even if we could claim Hammond and send him down, we'd only get relief for <$1M of his cap hit and we don't have $3M in cap space to take him on.

Hammond is not an option for us off waivers. If we really needed it and were planning on moving Miller, we could hope he clears then trade for him. We'd have to move some cap the other way to make it fit, but then he could be used in Utica after having already cleared. We aren't going to do that though.

Hammond is signed at $1.35M, not 4M as many are saying here. At that 1.35M he would actually be a very attractive claim for many teams looking for a quality back-up with some good upside.

My bad. when I googled his contract the headline was that he signed a 3 year 4.05 million contract I took that as yearly value. not bad value at all.

BTW he cleared
