-Vintage Canuck-
Quote The Carolina Hurricanes are reportedly trying to trade a defenseman they once drafted in the first round. Ryan Murphy is being actively shopped by the club and he'll likely be on the move, according to TSN's Darren Dreger. Murphy has one point in four games, and only Klas Dahlbeck has been given less average ice time (12:13) than Murphy (13:06) among Hurricanes defensemen this season. The 12th overall pick in 2011 is under contract for $750,000 in 2016-17 and $825,000 next season. http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1158698
Makaramel MacKhiato
I've always been a fan of Murphy. He's got massive offensive upside. Canucks have too many players similar to him though. Unless they'd swap him for Subban I'll pass.
Pears
Probably, most likely, better than Larsen.

BaerToBo
He's an NHL level defenceman who has top-4 upside. With Stetchers play improving it makes sense to trade tanev for maximum value. If we could trade tanev for murphy+taravainen/lindholm I think that would be a great move

ABNuck
Another under 6' lightweight Dman? No thanks...we're full. Time to move some of the midgets (Stecher 5'10" / Subban 5'9" / Biega 5'10") we have on D and play the grownups (Tryamkin 6'7", Pedan 6'5", Tanev 6'2", Hutton 6'2", Edler 6'3" and Sbisa 6'2" plus prospects like Juolevi 6'2")...that's how we rollz in the PACDIV... EDIT: I just realized I forgot Guddy (6'5")...that's 8 Dmen big enough to play in the PACDIV...time to move on from the vertically challenged. PS/ just kidding around boy's...see my reply below. Ossi Vaananen
He can't play defence. When you're with a team like the canes you get a spot if you're a first rounder. It seems he's even run out of rope there. Shouldn't be more than a mid round pick, or similar struggling prospect swap. Not worth the risk. saucypass
Not a fan. Couldn't play defense in junior and still can't today. Doesn't have enough offense in him to sustain pressure in the offensive zone to overcome his lack of defensive capabilities. Saying a lot considering I love skilled offensive players as much as the next guy. I'd give up a 6th round pick so Utica could use some depth. Otherwise, we have no space and I highly doubt Murphy can work his way up the depth.
Bruce Boudreau
He was suposed to be the next Mike Green? What happened? Don Cherry couldn't hop off his nuts in his draft year just because he is an Ontario guy. Kept saying he is gonna be an offensive dyanamo "reminds me of Bobby Orr!!" What a beauty...!!! -AJ-
Interesting. He hasn't been great yet, but he's still just 23 and for a defenseman, that's real young. He could still turn out to be a good player.

canucklehead44
Hockey Writers suggested Murphy for Virtanen ... no way! Virtanen is worth way more. Sure he is struggling but is also three years younger. Larsen & Baertschi for Murphy & Nestrasil? Nestrasil has been a healthy scratch half the games this year. He was pretty good last season, and is still youngish at 25. At the very least it provides a bit of a shakeup for two struggling teams.

Of course we can keep Stecher...Every team needs their token midget...AAPD / ACLU rules and all...I just don't think we need anymore than one.
