I know the team can't win every game, but at least if they can play 60 minutes of how they played in the first period of the Rangers game and first two periods of last night's game.  Show that they're actually trying.

I have yet to see this team play a full 60 this season. Except Montreal.

I know some people will say they enjoyed that game and it was exciting but i really didnt enjoy and of it. when we went up 3-0 i knew we would blow it and so i sat here waiting for it to happen. then i had to watch  us get scored on 2x in OT.

Its sad when u cant even enjoy a 3-0 lead. it made me question why i even bother watching the games anymore because theres virtually no time i enjoy the game anymore. its much more enjoyable for me to watch the 5 minute recap on youtube.

So this may not just be willies last night coaching the team but maybe my last time watching a full game for a while. im not sad though i got other things to do anyways and i cant afford to waste 3 hours a night being miserable.

Think of it as building toward the future. That was quite the little collapse though.

We lost to the second best team in the league, yet, I saw total dominance for forty minutes by a younger, inexperienced team. They proved that they do have what it takes to compete with the big boys and this should be the message of the day; not that they lost.

The change in the third period is a classic case of trying to protect a lead by a coach under a lot of pressure. Holding back on a team like Chicago is always going to fail. Constant pressure on the puck and frustrating them is the only way to go. Stay in Toews' and Kane's back pocket. Get in there grills and stay there. Take the odd cheap shot here and there, when opportunity presents itself. Keep the pedal to the floor. I want my team trying to run up scores. As long as the play is in the offensive zone, the opponent can't score.

These are all lessons to be learned as they become more experienced, player and coach alike.

All in all, a very entertaining game. Looking forward to Arizona.

3-0 lead, the worst lead in hockey. The Hawks got excited when they got the first one. Up until then, the Canucks were playing a pretty good system. One thing, I would never start any one of the twins on the first shift in OT, when Toews or Keith are on the ice to begin with. Never.........

The Canucks and Willie turned the momentum themselves by trying to sit back and kill the clock.

Great 2 periods by the Canucks!

Would like to know what WD said to them during the 2nd and 3rd period or was it the Sedins that were leading the charge?

Canucks stopped skating and became pylons and spectators.

For those who want to know about the system employed in the third, it goes something like this:

Defend the D zone, get possession, don't make the first pass, chase the puck in the neutral zoned, watch the Hawks execute the regroup, let the Hawks enter with speed while we stand still, try to defend, get possession, don't make the first pass...rinse and repeat.

Shots were 15-2 and there was very little offensive zone time.

The biggest problem with the Canucks is the lack of speed through the Neutral zone, they are not a fast team. The lack of speed through the neutral zone results in a poor forecheck and poor puck possession. Plus, the first pass is horrible, which results in a lot of chasing...even when they do make the first pass, they are slow through the neutral zone and the puck support is weak.

Lack of speed kills.

No surprise at all. After Edler plays one good game he follows it up with 10 crappy games, and we all know it too well except for the Canucks management.

Seriously, Edler has never been, is not and never will be the elusive #1 dman,  He's just too passive, slow, has a low hockey IQ and cracks like a biscuit under pressure.

Gumby or bambi on skates...with a brain fart.

Yes, I know Chicago has 4th liners that are super stars.

Seven minutes for Gaunce is a joke. Virtanen is gone and now he is focusing on Gaunce who is a solid two way player. Willie had a 3 goal lead and then he got out coached.

So do you think our 4th line matches up well to Chicago's 4th line? Their 4th line only had around 10 minutes and seeing they played the night before it would make sense for them. Not sure their 4th line played much in the 3rd anyway. Seemed like Kane was on the ice every second shift.

Willie dropped his 4th line down to under 8 minutes.

You can't run 3 lines at that pace.

Coaching again is the problem.

Lol, willie runs 4 line "what the F is Wilkie doing, shorten your bench"

willie runs 3 lines " what the F willie, 3 lines can't keep that pace"

guy cant win.....

Marky hadn't played many games where he was under a lot of pressure as a Canucks, remember when Lack was with the Canucks and he also couldn't handle the pressure and sometimes threw a tantrum?

Yeah, and Miller can? Canucks had a 3-0 lead on Calgary in game 6...game ended 7-4 Calgary.

Miller is not the solution. Marky is our future goalie...need to play him more in these pressure situations.

If they could play 60 minutes like that all the time then they'd be the Rangers or Blackhawks.  These are the 2016 Canucks, so you'll get 3 periods like that for every 19 games played.

It's about WD recognizing the circumstance, and adjusting his coaching accordingly.  He's just a very poor in-game coach.  For example Edler was really struggling last night.  WD should have reduced Edler's minutes.  That's an easy adjustment.  He simply tells his assistant coach to use Edler less.

This season is a loss, so keep WD and go for another high pick.

Up 3-0 and Willie shortens the bench and relies heavily on the Sedins who struggled all night with the speed of the Hawks while benching Chaput, Skille and Gaunce who were hemming them in almost every shift.  Then there is his decision to rely on the Swedish Pylon to provide defence.   More highly questionable and ineffective personnel decisions by Willie.  One would almost think he is being instructed to do the stealth tank.

De ja vu...remember the start of last year when the Canucks ran four lines in the first two periods and usually had the lead going into the third, then WD shortened the bench and only played the vets? Do you remember what the result to a lot of those games? I do.

WD is insane...he is not stubborn...he is insane!

If seats get cheap enough, Mrs Alf and I might actually go to some games again.  we used go a lot, and always smuggled in a flask.:o  Then we'd race our scooters around the concourse, running over fans with opponents' jerseys.  It's amazing what us old folk in scooters get away with!
