[Waivers] Matt Puempel- Ottawa

Tempting.

Will be surprised if he clears, but so many have...

Hasn't translated yet at the NHL level, but skates well, can shoot the puck, good possession player - and LW.

Claiming him might light a fire under Baertschi....

On the other hand, our depth callups have played well - hard to argue with the promote from within approach thus far.

He's got a very hard hard shot and is skilled. 6'2 205, and a pure goalscorer. Tempting indeed. You don't see someone with his skillset very often on waivers too. His frame and age (23) makes it that much juicer.

I mean common, how can you pass up a guy with that name? Nicknames for dayz.

Tank for waiver position!!!

I agree though - who knows what he becomes, but it would take the sting out of losing Etem - and he's the type of depth that might fit well.  A bit surprised they do this while Hoffman, Ryan are injured (and Macarthur) though.  They must be pretty disappointed with him?

Just another player who is struggling with consistency. Much like Jensen. Although Jensen's problem seemed to be much deeper than that. Really don't know what's wrong with Puempel but hey, a free prospect is a free prospect. I mean surely he'd beat the likes of Skille, Megna, and Chaput?

I would've slot him in with Baertschi and Horvat and see what he brings to the table right off the bat but Burrows is playing too darn good. I'm actually quite surprised we've never tried Burrows with Baertschi and Horvat until recently.

We got Megna and Chaput, why would we wanna take a chance on a young former 1st round pick with promise?

I would take a flyer on him.  Be great well we have injuries. If he does well or decent we keep him! see how he progresses if he stinks or isn't better then other depth then we just release him!

Lets do a "catch, test, and release" if needed!

He must have some upside bet he really doesn't look very different from others players of similar vintage that were available on waivers already this year, that is Etem and Nick Jensen. Canucks passed on both and all three of these players appear to have about the same body of work.

If ever a time to claim a guy, it would be now with all of the forward injuries and Utica desperately needing some of their better players back but I'm not holding my breath.

You can forget about it!!! JB wouldn't take a chance on Pulkkinen, Griffith, Parenteau, Paajarvi.... what makes you think Puempel is a better fit? JB would rather call up Rendulic to tease your guys!

You may want to watch Chaput and Megna a little closer.

Benning's depth signings are far better than most of the CDC armchairs realize.  A troll comment regarding Rendulic don't change that.
