Deal has a clause that if Burns retires early the Canucks must forfeit their first draft pick that year and pay 133% of Burns salary to every other team in the league.

I feel like things would be a lot more interesting and would have less cap circumvention if the cap hit was year to year based on that years salary. No more back loading years on contracts with 1M salaries to average out the cap hit (not sure what the break down is here but it is front loaded apparently). It would also eliminate most bad contracts as players age as the cap hit would be much lower, but it would shrink the cap available as the star is in the prime. This would actually lead to a even more balanced league which is what the cap is designed for anyways.
