Official Wireless Thread

Was with Wind earlier this year.  Signal a bit slow and weak in certain places.... but more or less unlimited data for like $35 + tax.  Switched over to Rogers as I get the corporate rate... 3GB for $45 bucks.... felt limited as I just stream the radio a little bit going to and from work and it seems to nearly max me out.

I wanted to switch to the new 4GB for $40 offered by Public Mobile, Fido and Virgin... Fido had major lineup and I was too late.  Public Mobile for $38 ended a the day before I found out.... so I went with Virgin.  It's Bell, so speed and coverage are the same as any other, except minimal connection on the Skytrain in downtown.  Switch over my number and my wife's.... saved $10 off the bat, plus an extra 10% off as there's some multiple plan/per account discount.  $72/month (pre-tax) for two lines at 4GB each, along with all the VM, caller ID, etc.... pretty good IMO.

The Virgin member discounts aren't too shabby either... breakfast sandwich and a coffee at Starbucks for like 5 bucks.

Dang. This is the thread I was actually looking for.

So anybody use Freedom mobile? Coverage in greater Vancouver?

Freedom was terrible. I live in coal harbour and my reception would be spotty. I use an S7. Anytime i would go to Richmond or North Vancouver, it would get worse. They're cheap, for a reason.

Yeah, I was letting myself get lulled by their cheap 'early black Friday' offer on the Google Pixel2 for 'free' with 5gb data and unlimited calling/text for $68/month (2 lines).

For now I'm going to look in to rooting my older S4 to get some speed/battery life back and see what the bigger guys come up with next week for black Friday. If nothing strikes my fancy, I might just buy an unlocked LG V20 and stay on my current Virgin plan if my rooted S4 doesn't keep me satisfied.

Looks like I can get Nougat 7.0 in the S4.

I have T-Mobile, and I really like them.  I have an unlimited plan with them which includes unlimited calling/data/text in the US, Canada, and Mexico.  I can be in Canada and make a call to the US, Canada, or Mexico, and not be charged for it, same with text and data.

I had the $40/4GB Plan last year, changed to the $60/10GB plan.

How is it more expensive? $10/GB last year and only province-wide calling, $6/GB this year with nationwide calling.

The craziness has been epic this year for this deal as I've never seen the chat/phone queue/best buy mobile flooded with so many people it's insane.

I currently have the 4GB deal from last year, but I really want the 10GB deal because it's technically a good offer.... just not sure how to really justify paying an additional 50% on my cell bill for data I most likely won't really use (unless I go out of my way to use it all like streaming video to/from work, etc).
