Value of our young trio of blue liners

I'm a big fan of Edler but I have to admit he is a declining asset. We need to maximize his return, defenseman are gold when it comes to trades. Our defense will take a hit since he still logs the biggest and probably the toughest minutes but it will give our young guys more opportunities.

There's no way this team can improve without getting top-3 picks.  We need elite talent, and that means tanking.  It's already been two whole years and Benning has utterly failed at this, trading all the picks away for old guys and scrubs.

When Linden or Benning talk about the scoring, they something like "we will just trade for a scoring forward".

so far they have signed two older (32yrs old)  players and paid them around 46 mil, full term of contracts, and so far got 44 goals from Vrbata, @10 mil and 4 goals from Eriksson, for around 2 million (prorated), so 12 million for 48 goals, $250,000 per goal and going up.

Unfortunately "tanking" isn't the guarantee it used to be with the new rules and of course there will be the Vegas team in the hunt for the bottom for years to come. This management group has to grow some b@lls and over pay to get established NHL top line players, pick out who they want and pursue. Detroit gave up more than 3/4 of their 1st round picks when they were at or near the top of the standings so they could stay there.

Unless another generational player comes along, none appear to be on the radar for the next 3 years, the team will get good enough top six guys to stay behind the top teams in the conference/league and off the bottom they will probably make the playoffs but not be good enough. Middle of the road for years/decade.

Our future d pairings

Juolevi-Stetcher

Tryamkin-Subban

Brisebois/Hutton-Gudbranson

I like that fit for Subban. He can focus on what he does best, scoring. Tryamkin can take care of things in the d zone. Brisebois is my sleeper to make the team.

Subban isn't going to be playing for this team

Hutton - Tanev

Juolevi - Stecher

Tryamkin - x

Gudbranson traded for forward

I really don't see Edler as a guy who would be willing to waive his NTC. As far as I know he's incredibly shy and has never played anywhere else. I just can't see it happeing, I think we're stuck with him or it will be another Hamhuis situation where he only gives one or two teams he's willing to go to and vastly ruining his value

Of the three dmen, Strecher and Hutton play the most similar, they are very close but I give the edge to Hutton right now, his size helps tip the scales.

Tryamkin already surpasses both those guys in the defensive part of the game and isn't really pushing/showing too much of what his offensive potential could be.

Nice to talk about them right now but I expect one or two of them to be traded for a bag of pucks soon, maybe some teams 2nd round picks or  "REAL GOOD" AHL players, in a panic, save my job trade.

They (management) have to be feeling the heat.

since you're into figuring things out, how much are we paying per Sedin goal?  Or how about Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Kane? I'm curious.

Have to make use of this asset...It's pretty much JB's best option...Also frees up another player to save come expansion draft time.

Can keep Sbisa if we trade Tanev or Edler.  Might be a good idea if the return warrants it.

I dont think we even need to protect Sbisa...Granlund is a much better value for Vegas.  He'd slot in nice as their 3rd line centre and is our most likely victim at the draft...as much as I don't like it.

I think we fret too much over the expansion draft, we're going to lose a fringe player so be it.

I like Granlund and think he is the perfect stop gap player for this team until the likes of Boeser, Juolevi and this year's top pick are ready...O yea, and for when JV grows up.

Grandlund is solid, and a great value, to call him fringe is disrespectful.  Competent Journeyman (even at such a young age) is a better assessment.

H. Sedin - 204,845/g

D. Sedin - 129,839/g

Crosby - 228,977/g

Malkin - 244,231/g

Toews - 197,647/g

Kane - 206,104/g

Which just points out Gillis was very good and Benning is the worst in the league

Found an interesting site which can help figure it out. Seems a fair bit different than what you posted though?

I did lifetime, to current date, only goals and only when with the Canucks.

So all those mentioned have been with one club for their entire careers.

The Vrbata and Eriksson contracts with Canucks only and price paid by Benning per goal, is going to be way over anything of those other players because he over paid for players beyond their expiry date instead of going after young players.

So it's ok to pay the sedins 200-300k per goal in the here and now but not Louie?  I'm afraid i don't understand what you're getting at. Goals in the NHL  cost X amount of dollars. Youngest players provide the most value per goal in general because they are on ELC's. Teams need goals. If the young guys can't score enough goals in the present it's not ok to sign older players to make up the difference?  Guess we will have to agree to disagree it seems.

We can't protect everyone and who knows there may be other Granlunds out there that they might prefer.
