Just wish the Canucks trainers and coaches had found a way to motivate Emerson Etem to keep up last year's play.  :(

He had a lot more potential than most of the players in Utica, last year he was playing better than any of this year's fourth liners.

I guess you have to blame him for his performance, but somehow there was a failure in the coaching staff.

Last year's Etem would have made a big difference to this years fourth line.

Etem was a master of his own fate. It's not the coaches fault....

According to McIntyre in the Province, Baertschi is considered day-to-day.  Was the shot he took on the foot during the Arizona game.

Skille missed practice the other day - probably why they recalled Grenier as insurance.  Larsen is still on IR so they had a roster spot open to recall Grenier.  If Larsen is to play tomorrow either Baer has to go on IR - which keeps him out for a week - or they have to send someone down.

It sure would be nice to add a scoring 6'5" 213 pound forward to the group.  If he and Pedan could get their act together at the NHL level, we could better match up against the Cali teams.

No doubt.  If Grenier could find consistency, he and LaBate would have the makings of a great fourth line, with say Zalewski in the middle.  Maybe some off-season boxing lessons so they can handle themselves better that way, too.

Nope, He's soft. The word out on CDC is he's soft.... buttery soft.... michelan man soft..... winnie the poo soft...... maybe too cudly as well.

Gaunce has been pretty consistent defensively though. Can't really expect much production out of him with his linemates and deployment.

Sure to all of that, but he is incredibly slow.  He is the type of player that needs to play with two fast wingers to make up for his lack of speed.  I just want to see more speed in the bottom 6.  I like the face offs and the size, but we don't have the wingers to make him look good or better for that matter.

He is definitely extra soft tissue, but we need offense and he isn't literally our only offensive upside prospect playing in the AHL.  Time for him to get his last last last chance I promise last chance.

get over etem already

he had a lousy training camp and preseason

he was waived

he was picked up by anaheim

and waived again

(and the rangers also gave up on the guy before he was a canuck)

i really do not know what you see in the guy

he clearly has or had potential. .but equally as clearly . is not able to reach it

close the book on him already

he needs another year or more in the ahl

but i suspect his chance at playing in the nhl is done

he likely will end up in europe somewhere

You're right, I shouldn't still be irritated about his piss poor effort in preseason. I expected more. It still bugs me because we really need depth.

Yes, his slack a** will be in Europe soon enough, I agree.

*Edit- and to be clear - he was the one putting out crap, his motivation sucked. Not a coaching issue. Question deployment, sure, I agree. But the guy just straight sucked

Megna

52.3% corsi with 8% ozone starts!

Chaput

51.8% corsi with 21% ozone starts!

Oh, the pain of the plugs.  Sure wish they had some decent underlying numbers to defend them with.

Good teams don't have fourth liners and call-ups, they have Toews and Crosby.  Skill is better than plugs....

If he'd play 6'5" hockey, he'd be a beast but he seems to disappear when he's on the ice. At his size, he needs to be either a physical force or an offensive threat..Right now he's neither. Until he learns this, he's going to be an AHL mainstay.

Plus Etem is injured (undisclosed but he's been out for some time) and has only played one game with the AHL Gulls (and three for the Ducks) this season.

Must be his balls. In preseason he played like he didn't even have... one.

Jeez I hope you are not blaming the coaches and trainers for a married man with a new child not being able to get himself conditioned and motivated to play a game that nets him $3/4M a year in salary.

Is this some kind of disease on CDC where players are never responsible for their own careers and performances? That if they screw up it is always some one elses fault. If this is  normal I wish my boss knew about it.

That is already starting to happen but part of that is putting those players in more situations that will demand other teams to respect it.

As long as the Sedins are given such preferential offensive deployment over Horvat and others, they will draw that defensive blanket.

And I have to say the Sedins were AWOL again for the Coyotes goal. They are getting worse when the puck is in our own zone.

I am not overly excited about guys like Megna, Grenier, Skille, Labate, etc. I would rather see Virtanen with a chance at a bigger offensive role than filling it with guys like that. But I can understand Desjardins doesn't want him in that spot right now so it is better to get him playing in the AHL.

No.

If Jake has an attitude problem then he has to be made to work his way up. And if he hasn't he still has to work his way up. He is just not ready. Every one of the guys you have mentioned has played better than Jake on similar minutes, they deserve their chance - Jake doesn't.
