Nuxfanabroad
So much to like about this team right now. Don't want to repeat stated points from other threads, but do feel it's worthwhile to lay out the positives(in one tasty list!). Hope posters will contribute their own insights... - I don't think many of us realize how good this team could quickly become. If healthy, & with 1 or 2 more precise trades, they COULD become a contender. - The pre-season tripe with unanimous media-slagging(65 pts, yada yada) has probably provided extra motivation for the the crew(again, possibly more than we realize) - It's becoming a very versatile lineup, that can adjust to speed/skill or size/defensive needs accordingly - These early injuries have forced WD to make moves he prob wouldn't have. This has underscored the quality of our emerging, young depth. - The youth & vets seem to be complementing each other perfectly, these days - As usual, it's a team of pretty decent, likeable blokes, the province's youth can look up to(no Avery, Kane types) - Our coaching has grown more diversified. What's more, they're quality, admirable gents, who command respect(hard for media to slag.. as per their usual M.O.) - We're building a team that seems the perfect antidote to more than one threat(eg: west coast size-teams; emerging young, skill-based opponents, etc...) To depend upon 'The Tank' is beneath us. Leave that to other places. ************************* ************************: ***************** going fwd: - our cap situation, appears very nicely manageable - expansion draft: for many reasons(much discussed), we're well-positioned for this coming challenge. Might even benefit here, from other desperate GM trying to move excess. There's probably others, but will just post this for now.

Got the right vets for him to look up to.
Kevin Biestra
I will grant that right now, Bo Horvat is looking more like a Trevor Linden type than I originally predicted. Let's hope that continues... I'll agree that we're a few "precise trades" from completing the transition. Hopefully something along the lines of the Ronning / Courtnall trade can happen, but those don't grow on trees. Right now Virtanen is looking more Stojanov than Neely, but there's time to turn it around.

It was not very long ago that we were icing an AHL calibre group of d-men and now we have a quality group that I believe is the youngest in the NHL. That is an amazing turnaround in such a short period and we still have players like Juolevi and Brisebois in the pipeline. The goalie situation looks solid for many years to come. Our forwards are mostly playing to their capabilities but, as most have mentioned, we still need some help there. Adding Boeser, Lockwood, Gaudette, Virtanen and whoever we draft this year should make the forward group much more formidable. Don't want to get ahead of ourselves but the future is starting to look pretty good.
LaBamba
This fan base really needs to stop taking 10 game sections of the season and critiquing the entire state of the franchise for the next 5 years based on those 10 games, myself included. NUCKER67
Hope every team they face continue to start their backup. No one gives the Canucks any respect. Canucks seem to be getting better and better as the season goes on. Baertschi and Eriksson are now contributing. They're getting goals from the D and on the PP. And doing this missing their top D pairing. I've liked Skille's and Chaput's energy. Burrows looks 5 years younger. 65 points? Pfft. Canucks will prove them wrong, as they always do. Coconuts
I can appreciate the glass half-full sentiment, but unless we unexpectedly make out like bandits in a trade or two we aren't gonna be anything resembling a contender for a while. The rest of your points are alright though.

One thing would be to stop having expectations of rookies to become more than they are rated to be. Hoping Juolevi becomes an Edler in his prime? Sure, that's his current maximum ceiling of fair expectation. Thinking he could become a true number one Like Lidstrom? Wishful, fanciful and nice if it happens but not to be counted upon. Same goes for Virt (Prime Torres, not prime Bertuzzi) and Boeser who has a long way to go before we can attach names like Parise or even his NHL comparison Sharp yet. To be fair, I think every fan base does that....it's what fans do. Besides, what else would we talk about on non-game days?
danjr
Looking at the standings today. I noticed that we are a mere 4 points out of being 4th place in the West. Next 20 games and we gain those 4 points we could be in pretty good shape.
IBatch
For me the number one thing going for us is envious cap space..that next year is going to get even better. Signing Horvat will either go a bridge deal in the 3.5-4 million range or around 5 with term...unless he rips it and becomes close to a point per game player...still he wont make as much as Miller. The Sedins will also clear more cap space and if they decide to retire or go elsewhere for a chance at the cup we will have enough cap space for two or three star players. And then there is Burrows Soon we will be swimming in cap space let's hope Benning and co have wised up and use it wisely to help our emerging core. Not as ugly or truculent as the 94' crew, but I agree, a Garth Butcher and Dan Quinn for Ronning, Momesso, Courtnall, and Dirk type trade would almost guarantee at least a wild care spot. Horvat is my new Linden - it's been too long between Lindens - glad to have the Ox leading the yeomen. I won't put Virt in Stojanov territory yet; but if that is the case it would be nice to pull another Stojanov for Naslund type trade!

Nuxfanabroad
This IS the yr to sneak in the side door, & go on an unlikely run. With all the player movement(cap trubs, expansion-juggling), every western team has potential pitfalls & weaknesses. Example..can any Cal team go into spring, claiming to trust their 'tending more than we should trust ours? Calling it now..this spring, upsets-aplenty. Hard to believe with the 9 game slide, but this team is not far off. We all (some) thought the team was playing fairly well during that stretch just couldn't score, now it's translating in to wins. Our last 10 we're 6-3-1, while the Coilers are going the other way at 3-6-1, but no-one talks about the Colier slide, just how bad the Canucks really are.
