MJDDawg
Russia's ambassador to Turkey assassinated in Ankara By Catherine E. The gunman shouted "Do not forget Aleppo!" as he opened fire. The shooting of Ambassador Andrey Karlov was captured on video. Russia's foreign ministry described it as a "terror attack." Russia has been instrumental in helping Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime in its push to retake the eastern sector of Aleppo, which had been held by rebels for nearly four years. Here's what we know right now: • Russian President Vladimir Putin called the assassination a "provocation," vowing to step up security at diplomatic missions. "This murder is clearly a provocation aimed at undermining the normalization of Russia-Turkish relations as well as at undermining the peace process in Syria promoted by Russia, Turkey, Iran and other countries interested in promoting settling the crisis in Syria," Putin said in televised remarks. "The only response we should offer to this murder is stepping up our fight against terror, and the criminals will feel the heat." Read More • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the killing won't dampen the two countries' efforts to build a stronger relationship. "We know that this is a provocation on destroying the relationship between Turkey and Russia during this normalization process. ... All the expectation of what they want to achieve with this attack will be in vain and never happen," Erdogan said in televised remarks Monday. • Off-duty police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas was the gunman, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said in a press conference. The attacker was born in 1994 in the town of Soke in Turkey's Aydin province, he said. • Turkey's official Anadolu news agency reported that the gunman had been neutralized. But it was not immediately clear whether the attacker was killed or captured by police. • Karlov was giving a speech at the opening ceremony of a photo exhibit when the gunman opened fire. • Images of the scene showed a body on the ground as a man wearing a suit and holding a pistol stood nearby. • In a video circulating on social media that shows the shooting, the gunman is heard shouting, "Allahu akbar (God is greatest). Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria! Do not forget Aleppo! Do not forget Syria!" "Get back! Get back!" the man can be heard shouting in Turkish as he waves a gun. "Only death will remove me from here. Everyone who has taken part in this oppression will one by one pay for it," he said. • The shooting occurred a day before diplomats from Turkey, Iran and Russia are scheduled to meet in Moscow to discuss the situation in the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo. <img alt="Emergency vehicles respond to the shooting of the Russian ambassador to Turkey." class="media__image" src="http://i2.cdn.cnn.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/161219114450-01-russian-amb-attack-large-169.jpg"> Emergency vehicles respond to the shooting of the Russian ambassador to Turkey. • "We are currently in contact with Turkish authorities, who are assuring us that a thorough, comprehensive investigation will be conducted," Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in remarks broadcast on Russian television. "Murderers will be punished. Terrorism won't sustain. We'll fight it." • "This attack shows the most disgusting and barbaric face of terrorism," Turkey's foreign ministry said, vowing to fight terrorism alongside Russia and its other allies. • The attack occurred at the Cagdas Sanat Merkezi modern arts center in Ankara. The arts center is located in a posh, upper-middle-class neighborhood, near luxury hotels and many foreign embassies. • Russia's foreign ministry described Karlov as an "outstanding diplomat." "He's a diplomat who's contributed a lot in fighting terrorism during his career," Zakharova said. The ambassador began his diplomatic career in 1976 and has been the envoy to Turkey since 2013, according to a profile on the website for the Russian Embassy in Ankara. • Putin and Erdogan spoke on the phone after the shooting to discuss the details of Karlov's death, according to Russia's state-run Sputnik News Agency. http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/19/europe/turkey-russian-ambassador-shot/index.html

Warhippy
Which is why Canada's best option is to simply sit back shut up and keep our noses out of that entire mess. Seriously, anyone thinking or desiring canada to get involved ALA USA USA USA needsd to enlist now or enlist their children before getting all gung ho in a part of the world we have literally 0 business in. Sad state of affairs over there but after reading about the folley of Verdun and the end to that conflict 100 years ago yesterday I desire nothing more than canada to simply stay the frag out of this area of the world and mind its own business. Nuxfanabroad
Geopolitical chess with Russia will never go well for western interests. All of the actions of the last half-decade+, amount to attempting to goad Putin into a war. The elite(Banksters, elite monopolists) are getting desperate, & need war to retain any grasp on influence. Their time is winding down.
clam linguine
Some Russian sources are blaming the shooting on MSM because they say they are falsely riling up emotions over the Aleppo situation. CNN announcers are aghast!

Robongo
Watched the video and whole things bizarre. That cameraman must have some serious balls guy gets shot right in front of him and he doesn't even flinch? Then he zooms out and points the camera at the shooter that is less than 30 ft away from him and the shooter even points the gun at him briefly and again, doesn't even flinch and continues to film the whole thing. Anyones natural instinct would be to get the &^@# out of there not stand literally right in front of the guy filming him screaming Alahu Akbar and waiving his gun around. Doesn't drop to the ground or anything

Blue Jay 22
If I'm the US, Germany, UK, France, or Israel, I'm speed dialing Putin right now and giving condolences while asking what one can do to help with the Syrian situation. Putin is already tired of dealing with the militants in the Middle East. Pretty soon, he's going to just say f*** it and start bombing the crap out of suspected terrorist hideouts while giving no regard to the civilians living in those areas. Nuxfanabroad
Western media is a propaganda conveyor belt. Ask yourself WHO started the Syrian conflict? What happened in Iraq? Afghanistan? Ukraine? What're the Saudi's doin beating up on little Yemen? Who provides THOSE weapons? Libya, Lebanon, Sudan, etc... I've read Qatar wanted to run a pipeline to Europe(through Assad's Syria). Western interests fully supported Qatar. Places like Syria, Iran(& prob Russia) weren't on-board. What kind of country would have HILLARY(nice lost e-mails) as Sec of State?! Irredeemably deplorable?! If all this collapses for Nato/US/banksters, the petro dollar collapses, & world-wide systems all fall into question. It's EASY to see their motivations. Imagine if most all countries STOPPED buying energy in US $ ? Most people clam up & accept their mainstream-narrative. Not many want the inconvenience of questioning(honestly) the integrity of a western-manipulated system, whose convenient dominance we all grew up with. What we all have to come to terms with, is that world-wide LOTS of people(all colours & political stripes) are strongly questioning the status quo. It's on borrowed-time. Imagine there's no Greenbacks It's easy if you try No wars, surround us Above us, no fly-bys...
