JM_
Pretty hard to be unhappy about Stecher, OJ and Jake improving in Utica. WD... ugh. I've been as down as anyone on ol Willie, but 33 games in I do have to say he and Lidster have done a good job on total team D, and in the development of Tryamkin. I'm not sure I can remember a D guy that raw coming in developing to this point in about a 1/2 season. I still think Willie has done a 'Vrbata' on Loui and loves himself too much Skille and really makes some strange in-game moves (or lack of moves). But I suppose the positive of keeping him is it will help attract a quality coach. Linden can maybe gain some credibility not being as spastic as Florida has been e.g.

The mantra now is, "we'll accept it, they just have to say it", as if there's some sort of burden of confession upon the team to do so for them, and that without it it isn't actually happening. As I've said several times, one day (and not far off) they will suddenly see a young and competitive team and be dumbfounded as to where it came from. Nuxfanabroad
That's not bad about Willie. Feel he's a meh-coach, but respectable dude that seems to keep the kids in line. You can't question Willie's integrity & dedication.
hammertime
I'm totally fine with the GUD move they bought a young beastly RHD with a great attitude and leadership qualities. He may or may not ever pan out but the move made sense and I still believe we have yet to see what Gud is capable of being. What I don't get is the Eriksson signing for 6 years not saying that he isn't a very talented player he most certainly is I just don't see how his career trajectory correlates with the teams trajectory in 4 years the team will be entering their prime and we will have 6m tied into a player well past his prime. The only way I see that signing becoming a win is if he and Rodin make Magic together and Rodin goes on to become our next Swedish star player. It's a pretty big if though....... But if Rodin and Loui score 50 goals combined for us next year with our D I think were a playoff team that can make some noise. They look so stupid doing that. e.g: If I'm eating a sandwich, do I have to tell somebody that I'm eating the sandwich so they accept that I'm eating a sandwich? It's super flawed logic. So apparently, they have to be "told" that we're in a rebuild. Who's going to buy tickets then? If the team isn't trying to be competitive then what is there to watch? Especially at the beginning of a rebuild. I heard people around here say they think a rebuilding team should have at least 15 picks in the draft (Well, that line came from Alf, so I guess it doesn't come as a shock), TOR the holy grail of rebuilding had 10 picks at the draft. Flawed logic.

Actually, one of them here claims to have cancelled season tickets this year because of "mixed messages", but says he would have renewed if the Canucks had simply admitted they were rebuilding. Right, because I sure wouldn't have a problem forking money over to a team that gives up before the season starts. Honestly, why do you go to a game? Entertainment? Winning? What entertainment would you get if the Canucks aren't close behind by say 1 goal or ahead by 1 goal with 2 minutes left? And the winning part shouldn't even be a thing at that point. People are so quick to point at Winnipeg and Edmonton and Calgary, but those teams took YEARS to get those guys, we're just getting started, and I always facepalm when someone whines that we "don't have any elite talent" and that we need to rebuild, but then the next day they don't see any "blockbuster" trade for a first rounder and say "Why aren't we rebuilding? By now we would have great prospects if it weren't for not rebuilding all this time!" Well, if people want a rebuild (which we are currently in), they have to preach something called "patience". If people think that we're going to get great prospects off the bat, they are completely wrong. Whenever I see some guy complain about the team losing in the middle of the season I go, "This is what you asked for, now you got it." People have to know what a rebuild IS before screaming for one. Harvey Spector
Yes we are rebuilding. So if that's the case then in a rebuild you need to aquire young assets for the future via the draft and trade. So now the question becomes do we trade Hansen, Burrows and the Sedins at the trade deadline. I'm thinking a team that is rebuilding would be shipping out vets for prospects so the rebuild can be completed in due course. Hansen could probably fetch at least a second and a prospect or maybe even a first to a cup contender. If you are rebuilding then that deal needs to be made. We we will find out at the trade deadline whether we are actually rebuilding or retooling on the fly and trying to make a playoff push. As for Wilie, while I have been somewhat vocal lately that he should be let go, I am firmly of the belief now that he will remain until at least the end of the year regardless of what happens the rest of the year. Funny thing is Linden and Benning said from day 1, and many times since, "rebuild on the fly" and "compete for a playoff spot". What many fans seem to hear is "retool" and "contend". That word "rebuild" has been there all along but it just doesn't seem to register. There's only mixed messages for those with poor listening/reading skills.
