Canucks recall Anton Rodin from Utica conditioning stint

Anton Rodin is apparently ready to go.

The Swedish winger was recalled by the Canucks from his Utica conditioning stint on Thursday. He played three games for the Comets, recording just one assist.

Originally drafted by the Canucks in 2009, Rodin played two AHL seasons for the Canucks’ former affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, in 2011-12 and 2012-13. He struggled to make an impact, battling injuries during much of those two seasons. He tallied just 14 goals.

He returned to Sweden and played for Brynas where he re-discovered his scoring talents. Despite suffering a season-ending injury in January, he was still named Swedish Hockey League MVP.

The resurgence in form drew the interests of the Canucks; he was originally seen as a scoring prospect. Coming into the current season, there was great hope he’d be a key scoring cog for a team which otherwise looked set to struggle to score.

In training camp, he suffered a setback, with his knee swelling up.

Now the question is, can he score enough to stay in the lineup?

I see him slotting into the line-up for tomorrow's game. It will be interesting to see which current player he will replace; maybe Megna or Chaput.

And who goes down. My guess is Megna, who can help the Comets. Both he and Chaput require waivers again, but I don't think Megna will get claimed considering the others who have passed this year.

Regardless, we're in a roster freeze right now so not sure how it'll work or what they'll do short term.

Having another RH shot on the PP with the twins sure won't hurt. I'm assuming he's going to take Granny's spot on the 2nd line with Loui and Sutter? It might help to get Loui going to have an actual sniper on the other side of Sutter.

I hope things finally work out for this kid.

Our PP is a complete disaster. If anything give him a shot on RW with the twins. See if lightning strikes.

Yah that could work too. Hansen is so useful up and down the line up it could make for some interesting options.

I want him to be played with horvats line replacing burrows. That line has been the most consistent and you would want to put rodin where his linemates are rolling. Burrows would be able to play on any other line and continue to be as effective. If Rodin starts to produce at half the rate he did in the SHL this can be a legit second line.

Ever since WD put Burr on that line, it has been producing like a legit second line, or even a mediocre first line. Aren't you at all concerned that until Burr was put on that line, none of them were really producing?

Hate to say it, but best send Gauncer down. Guys requiring waivers, with our luck get claimed.

We'd better keep max numbers for depth.

Not a bad thing to happen. Gaunce has done a journeyman job on the 4th line. Nothing great, but has not stood out in a bad way. He can go down and center Jake.  They could generate some chemistry which could do them both well next year.

I have had a soft spot for Gaunce ever since he pushed Trymakin up the grind.  Maybe he could push Jake a bit.

Leave the triple B line. Rodin could do well with Eriksson and have Sutter play the responsible role on the line. Good place to start. Granlund can center the 4th for a few games.

Agreed. The BBB line has been arguably the Canucks best line. Would not be smart to break it up without a really good reason. I would be willing to bet that Rodin starts on the fourth line, but I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot on Sutter's wing.
