This barely makes any sense.  Oh, you watched the game, well then....

The game winning goal.

Don't be a dill weed (that's pure Saska-talk right there)

It's only rural Ontario because those guys came to Saskatchewan to work in the patch. Thats patch. They then went back home to Ontario and it became popular because it was new. Choice.

Count on it, they started popping up like festering zits in the GDT already.  More will come.

Lots of things came into this game but at the end of the day the individual Canuck players played pretty well. Refs and coaching was the decider here.

1) Sedins were alright tonight, terrible pass by Henrik to lead to the GWG that essentially cost us but the twins had chances. The game turned around as soon as Hansen was out of the game, he was our best player until he was ousted. Eriksson simply has no chemistry with the twins and WD was an idiot to put him up and break up our best line in the early game.

2) Eriksson and Granlund are the two most underated Canucks so far this season and so is their chemistry. That steal by Eriksson to set up the first goal was brilliant and those two have had chemistry all season long. If you're going to break up a duo WD, don't break up these two. Dumb coaching and it cost us all the offence we had going. When you've got two guys clicking early in a game you don't break them up. Hope these guys are back together for the next game. Sutter adds a nice touch to their line and when they were together, they were our best.

3) Bo had a few good rushes and is clearly trying his best as is Baertschi but tonight just wasn't their night. Still, generating chances so can't complain. They got victimized defensively on one of the fast-rush Jets goals though, and while they've been pretty good defensively most of the season, they looked bad by the Jets speed.

4) Fourth line got way too many minutes for how poorly they played. They were hemmed into their own zone a few times but nevertheless get prime time and a bit of 2nd unit PP time as well for some reason.

5) Chris Tanev was a monster defensively tonight. Sure, he got scored on, but they weren't really his fault. Brilliant defence in the first half of the game. Our defence has always struggled with speed and he couldn't contain Ehlers or Laine on either of their fast goals but he was in position and let the shot straight up to the goalie which is all you can ask. Can't ask for more from Tanev who was brilliant tonight.

6) Sbisa had a solid game too, not much offence but no defensive mistakes. He didn't make as many good defensive plays as Tanev but certainly not his fault on any of the goals. He wasn't out of position or anything, this team and goalie just can't defend against speed and either can the coaches.

7) Hutton had a few mistakes tonight, not big ones but his passes weren't very crisp, lead to a couple of errand passes leading to icings and a couple of bad hold-ins in the offensive zone. No good shots or offensive chances either. He didn't lead to any goals against directly but really was quite average tonight which is becoming a trend. He needs to be considered our bottom pairing lefty when all healthy.

8) Stecher was great defensively again, played with a bit of physicality and had the best passes all night long. Very crispy passing, great hold ins, good shots, and no defensive mistakes. No offence or goals of course but his foundational skills and fundamentals are fantastic and a stark contrast to Hutton's.

9) Biega played pretty well tonight as well, good passes at times, no glaring defensive mistakes which he's made in the past, good physicality and quick skating to get the puck out of the defensive zone. A relatively good night for him.

10) Tryamkin was pretty bad again tonight, some defensive errors but a couple of good plays, on the whole though he made more bad defensive plays than good. Two absolutely idiotic penalties though to give the Jets some life in the first period.

11) Miller was up and down. Can't really blame him for the Laine goal, that's simply a superstar going head to head with the goalie and winning. You've got to account for one of those goals when you play talent like this. The Ehlers goal however he should have had, both of them to be honest, and that last goal shouldn't have counted anyway.

12) A special mention to Willie tonight who IMO was the single biggest reason we lost this game. This game was entirely won and lost with coaching. The players on the most part played extremely well in all of their positions, but the difference was coaching and here's where it all went wrong:

A - Hansen leaves the game, WD breaks up the best duo in Eriksson and Granlund to put Eriksson on the top line. Suddenly, neither line has any offensive chemistry. What should he have done? Put literally ANYONE else on the top line and not break up our hottest duo to start the game.

B - Laine scores on a quick rush with speed late in the 2nd period, we go into the locker-room, WD doesn't change a thing. Ehlers scores a couple of minutes later with almost an identical goal with speed. Sure, that's half Henrik's fault, but the coaches have to be telling the entire team to look out for that sort of thing. The Jets know how to score. The Canucks should know how they score too. Terribly coached.

C - No offence after halfway through the first, WD breaks up the lines for Hansen, doesn't change them again, we generate next to no offence. Look at the powerplays as well, we had our chances to get back in this game and simply didn't do anything with them.

D - Finally WD gets called for a too-many-men penalty which is in itself a massive coaching mistake, then Ehlers scores on a genius play by himself. They try the cross-crease pass to Laine, it works to a tee but Miller makes a massive save. Then they go back to the play, Tanev opens up and Ehlers walks in to score. Whether that's coaching or micro-coaching in the players minds, the Canucks simply didn't have that duo covered. Tip your hat to Ehlers and Laine but we have to be able to stop that sort of thing if it's their high percentage play.

TL;DR - The Canucks actually played pretty well tonight, but the game was lost on coaching and the refs salt it away with the final goal. I haven't minded WD's decisions too much in the past but tonight he got flat-out embarassed by Maurice and the Finns.

In other news, hope everyone realizes what a mistake the Virtanen pick was now, and how important Edler is to this team. Highlight game to show off both facts I've been preaching for a long time. Hate to be right in these instances.

Thats poor. Go have a beer and clam. Maybe go by the LBS and grab us a rye and ginger, but watch out you don't spin out and end up in the rhubarb.

You're not going to out Sask me buddy.

Good thing we got screwed out of Laine

It was bad luck we did not get one of the top 4 in the 2016 draft. But failing to take Ehlers or Nylander in 2014 was an unforced error.

Always go with the hot hand after a win, not with the cold guy

Yes, Markstrom has been playing better than Miller lately and was very good on Tuesday. The Canucks have paid a lot for a veteran goalie (Miller) who has been a below average #1 in his time with the Canucks (based on save percentage). But WD is committed to Miller being the #1. But I guess Marky plays tomorrow.

The Canucks were lucky to be tied after two periods today. The D was under a lot of pressure. Tanev and Sbisa were good but everyone else struggled. And with a game tomorrow the D will be even more tired. Pedan should definitely play. The Canucks could use his size and strength and toughness. But WD just refuses to play the guy.

To be fair, the Jets actually finished ahead of the Canucks in the standings last season. Them getting Laine was literally like winning the lottery, even Jets fans will tell you that.

As for Ehlers over Virtanen, can't argue much with you there.

Disappointing result tonight. It was a very winnable game. The boys just blew it up in the 3rd. After the Ehlers goal, we had a PP. we should've cashed in on that opportunity but we didn't. Then we started to take careless penalties like too many men. Positives though. Granny-Sutter-Eriksson looked real solid tonight. The goal early in the game was set up pretty nicely by Sutter battling along the boards, able to get it down low to Loui, and dished it over into the slot for Granny who made no mistake. Also, Tryamkin looked really good out there. When he took penalties, he made up for it by making solid defensive plays. Hutton and Tanev looked okay out there other than being on the ice for the last goal which Miller should've covered up. Stecher also continues to get better and better as the season goes on. He goes along the blue line with the puck and handles it with real care, always looking to make the right decisions. Sedins obviously had a off night. Hank gave a pizza right to the Jets that led to the early go ahead goal for the Jets and it cost the team at the end. No time to be down on ourselves about this one. Right back at it tomorrow. Hope that they put all the frustration on our hated rivals Phlegms. GCG!

Tbh yes they did luck out. But if the Canucks weren't so full of fake pride and actually did sell off players/assets, the future wouldn't pan out the way it did and never know what the results of the lottery would have been.
