Van Minni [proposal]

Recommended Posts

So with the recent tear Minni has been on their looking like pretty legit playoff contenders. I'm betting they would be pretty enticed to upgrade their lineup come deadline.

To Soda

Granlund

To Nux

Jordan Greenway

We no longer risk losing Granlund to Vegas for nothing in return. He's an instant fit in the dressing room with his brother being a leader on that team and could go on to flourish in MInni. Watching the WJC Greenway is an absolute beast drafted out of Boston Uni so you know JB has been watching him. Everything about the kid screams future NHL checking line force of nature, with good vision and the hands to be the net front presence on the PP and pot those greasy ones. The future Nucks with BO Virtanen and Greenway all in our top 9 will be backing up defenders around the league faster than a toilet at a seafood restaurant in Saskatchewan.

SCOUTING REPORT

ASSETS:

Blessed with great size and reach, he skates well for a big man and also has excellent playmaking instincts (and overall offensive acumen). Displays obvious power forward upside: can be a force in the corners, along the walls and in front of the net.

FLAWS:

Needs to fully develop his power forward mentality and become more aggressive overall. Must also continue to work on his defensive-zone coverage. Is a bit raw and inconsistent so he may need more time than most prospects to fully develop.

CAREER POTENTIAL:

Huge power forward with upside.

Minny easily says yes, but I highly doubt Vancouver offers Granlund when we could just protect him. You didn't list which players are going to be exposed or protected. So you shouldn't just assume he's not going to be protected. I don't see JB offering a proven NHLer for an unproven skilled goon/power forward. While also considering the direction the team is going; we'd be picking up another power forward  who is Jake Virtanen's age and style of play. I predict he is at least 2 years away from being an impact at the NHL level. Pretty good prospect though, just an overpayment.

I think it's more likely we acquire Mikael Granlund than trading away Markus.

If we protect Granlund then were exposing one of Hansen Bae. Who I'd prefer to keep over Granlund. No slight to Granlund I'm quite happy with him. Greenway is also far more skilled than the goon moniker you labeled him with.

Well he does fight so goon seems partially appropriate. But I guess if we were left with those options, a trade would be necessary.

Russo today was just talking of how Minnesota is so eager to get Greenway under contract.  Doubtful there would be any interest.

Minnesota also has the same problem re expansion.  Too many players on D but also on F to protect.  There is also no obvious fit for Granlund in their lineup.

Right now they are running with

Parise Staal Coyle

Zucker Koivu Granlund

Niederreiter Haula Pominville

All of these players are on a better scoring pace than Granlund.  Better team - still Granlund getting 2nd line minutes and is not as productive as their 3rd liners who play quite a few minutes less.  They probably really want to move Pominville though.

Also they are hoping for Tuch and Eriksson Ek to make their team next year so there's really no spot for him.

That'd be cool with me, but I don't see Minny giving away a good prospect for a rental, middle sixer considering what their roster currently looks like.

If they lose a few guys to injury leading up to TDL, maybe they'd go, but with expansion looming, auto protected prospects will be of significant value.
