One way contracts do not guarantee players a spot on the team, it just guarantees they will receive full contact value. There is no difference in pay between HNL or AHL. Example would be Kenins, he was on a 1 way contract this past year, however did poor in pre season and did not make the team, only ended up playing 6 NHL games as an injury fill in.

true

and if he made the team , he'd be subject to waivers if he went down no ?

Rodin will be subject to waivers if he starts as a fill in ?

Yes he will be subject to waivers, so he will have to show well in training camp and earn his spot. If not he may end up as another Corrado, as there were teams this year (Toronto) keeping an eye on how Rodin was playing

Or heading back to Europe.

Rodin is not a lock, and he does have a European out-clause, meaning he could bolt to Europe if he doesn't make the Canucks.

I'm curious about his versatility though, if he's able to play either wing or even a bit of centre. This roster almost requires versatility, with how WD shuffles things so quickly.

Sedin Sedin Hansen

Baertschi Sutter Virtanen

Rodin Horvat Etem

Some sort of UFA in the top 9 as well. For the 4th, Dorsett and Granlund are locks. Competitive camp for sure.

This guy was my favorite prospect back in the day. I saw so much potential in him and was crushed when he didn't put it together. To hear that he's improved so much in the SHL and is looking to make an NHL comeback with the Canucks makes me happy.

I really hope he finally puts it together for the big show.

Apart from any thing else Rodin is the "X" factor for next September. Can he fill a spot in the top 9 or better still the top 6. JB only gave him a 1 year deal so it sounds like he's not exactly sold on him. It would simplify the draft for the first round pick if we new we had a gem in Rodin on wing

Rodin is an unknown at the NHL level, but then so is Grenier and Pedan, who'll require waivers next year so will most likely be on the team, and even Larson, who has some NHL experience but not a large sample size. Rodin and Larson have the higher ceilings in that group, but Grenier and Pedan might find it easier getting ice time if they're only trying to break in on the 4th line or 3rd pairing.

Benning knows what he might have in all these players, but as has been said, they'll have to prove it to cement spots on the team and earn those longer contracts. Players like this aren't ever gifted contracts that'll set them up for life.

Did we own his rights the whole time ?

If not, where other teams interested in him ?

Not that I take anything serious from the Oilers but Mark Spector and guys like that claim that Larsen is a waste of jet fuel to bring over here to try out in the NHL again

And yet the Oilers wanted him to come back until he refused to play for them.

Sour grapes much?

Was just going to say this. From what I heard they wanted him on the team but he didn't want to play with them. Don't blame him, the whole team AND management seems like a group of self centered children.

He will replace Vey at the very least.

We will let Vey walk.

Vey will sign with Edmonton and win 5 art Ross trophies, 2 Selke's and 7 MVP.

The 2 years he didn't win the Art Ross  he made up for playing elite Defence giving him the MVP regardless.

Haha really...

I knew that the organization treated Anton Belov like crap and ran him out the door. They brought him in from the K. Maybe Belov filled Larsen in on the stupidity

Rodin is a crap shoot IMO. I consider his age and AHL history a positive. He should have a good idea of what it will takes in NA. He has no NHL experience and I don't have a high regard for the SEL. I suspect Benning will have a clear idea of what he is by X-Mass.

It breaks my heart to see Bae and Bo separated, but alas.

I don't see that lineup happening.  I personally don't think Rodin will even make the team - though I'm hoping he will show enough to keep himself here.  I also wouldn't be surprised if both Virtanen and McCann spend the year in Utica.  But I see us signing a UFA - and should that UFA end up being Eriksson as I believe, it would look more like this by the end of the season.

Sedin Sedin Erikkson
Baertschi Horvat Sutter
Burrows Granlund Hansen

Etem Gaunce Dorsett

(And yes, Etem has played both wings)

Eriksson would spend very little 5v5 time with the twins. Vrbata 2.0 problem.

They're a great line on international ice with the extra time, space and less physicality. On NHL ice, the twins function far better with a puck retrieving, 2 way, board/corner battling, net presence triplet (a Burrows, Hansen etc).

If we did sign Eriksson, he'd almost certainly be on our 2nd line.

Sedin, Sedin, Hansen

Baer, Sutter, Eriksson/other UFA

Rodin, Horvat, Virtanen/Burrows (one of which in Utica)

Etem, Granlund, Dorsett

Only UFA I see displacing Hansen would be Okposo.

Even which I think Hansen should stay with the twins.  He fit well with them and having Opkoso on the sedin line really spreads out our offense,  Okposo and Sutter on a line is a hard line to play against,  Add a gifted play maker in Baertschi and I think we have something.

With that said line ups change basically every 4 games so what every we start the year off with is not likely to be the way the years finishes.

Totally agree, Hansen/Okposo would be interchangeable on the top two lines and either combo would look quite good IMO.

Ugh that last part. I understand juggling the lines to find a little spark every now and then. But for the longest time, other than the twins, every line has just been a marry go round. At some point you have to question if its doing any good or just hurting chemistry that could have been developed.

Well this past year that was due to a combination of a LOT of injuries and a LOT of youth. Those two combined tend to lead to a LOT of line instability.
