Because if it was as large of a chunk of the season as I think it is, that's incredible that he still won. The SEL is way down the pecking order of pro leagues so wait until Rodin actually plays some games here before getting to excited. A positive I see is his AHL time probably has him prepared to an extent. That year with the Wolves must have been brutal.

Popular Post ForsbergTheGreat
If canucks go out of their way to sign and bring Rodin over. I fully expect him to be given huge opportunity right off the bat, There isn’t any better opportunity then to play alongside his fellow countrymen. They are not going to bring him over to try and slowly develop him, he’s 25 turning 26. He either has it or he doesn’t. A one year show me what you got type situation. I’d rather have the canucks give that opportunity to a player in our own system, than for them to go out and sign Eriksson at 5.5+. Worst case is Rodin doesn’t turn out, we aren’t out much, we’d still have that 5.5 mil to spend elsewhere. But if he does turn out we’ve found another asset that could turn into trade value or another piece of our future. Very low risk.
TheRussianRocket.
http://www.brynas.se/artikel/79158/ Anton Rodin gets The Golden Helmet! The Brynäs forward Anton Rodin of the SHL is voted as the recipient of the Golden Helmet. The SHL players have voted Anton Rodin (Brynäs IF) as the recipient of the Golden Helmet, which is awarded to the most valuable player in the league. The prize is awarded by Reebok-CCM Hockey in collaboration with Hockey magazine, which is the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation's Official Journal. "That there are the other players in the SHL who voted for me makes it feel very special. I'm proud. There are so many good players in the league," says Anton Rodin. His career started in Hammarby before Anton moved to Gävle and Brynäs and through games of J18, J20 and SuperElit - and some matches on loan to Oskarshamn - received debut in the Elite League 2009/10 season. The following season, he got his break. In 2011/12 Anton moved to Canada to try to take a place with the Vancouver Canucks, but it was only played games in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves. "I learned anyway enormously over there, both hockey terms, and on a personal level. I developed both as a player and as a person." He returned to Brynäs as a more complete player and since the fall of 2013 has been one of the key players on the team and had been notorious poänggörare (point scorer?). He is a fast, technical and smart forward, who plays physically but above all målfarlig (dangerious threat?) and a good forward player. Very good in the numerical modes. For this season, he was named team captain and made 37 points in 33 games in SHL before he got injured and been out of the game since then. That a player who makes so few matches get gold helmet is unique. "I have not had a thought about it but it's enormously flattering" says Anton. This is the third time that the Golden Helmet goes to a player in Brynäs. Jan Larsson received the 1999 and 2012 voted Jakob Silfverberg up as a receiver. Anton Rodin will get the Golden Helmet in gavlerinken arena tomorrow, Saturday, before the second eighth final between Brynäs Djurgården.
Qwags
Do we have any updates on negotiations between Rodin and Benning?
elvis15
If we did, you'd have heard it here. He's injured still and will take time to recover so I don't expect any contract news until closer to summer. Perhaps I'm overly swayed by the way his scoring has fallen off since since his first few games and by his very low faceoff %, but I haven't seen enough yet to conclude he's ready to play at the NHL level on a regular basis yet. 2. Backwards steps aren't necessarily bad for development. The easiest example I can think of is Leon Draisaitl. Last season the Oilers decided he wasn't ready after 1/2 season in the NHL and gave him an even larger backwards step, all the way back to juniors. He wouldn't have been eligible for any other step outside the NHL because of the NHL-CHL agreement about junior players being returned to junior. One can never predict what his development would have been if they'd kept him in the NHL, but It would be hard to argue the backwards step hurt him. He was poor in the NHL last season but this season he's 2nd on the Oilers in scoring and 4th among Oilers' forwards in average time on ice. The key isn't whether it is a forwards or backwards step in calibre of opposition, it is whether the NHL is the best level for him to develop into the best player he can become for future editions of the Canucks. It remains to be seen what this summer's training will bring but the speculation that a season in Utica might be good for him seems reasonable enough at this stage. I don't pretend to know what will be best for him next season, but am of the opinion that giving him the Draisaitl treatment would have been better for him this season. Otoh, because the Canuck suffered a number of key injuries shortly before McCann reached a half season on the roster, it isn't surprising that they kept him with the Canucks. Oops-this isn't the Jared McCann talk thread? Ok, to relate to Rodin, if the Canucks sign Rodin it could make sense to keep him in the NHL ahead of McCann even if just as a placeholder if the team feels a season in Utica would be the best place for McCann's development. Great rebuttal to a post that wasn't about McCann. I was writing about Virtanen, but go ahead, fill your boots.
Ossi Vaananen
I've been watching some of his vids, and i'm excited! He definitely takes advantage of the bigger ice though.
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Good vids, Ossi! Thanks for sharing. I just wish they wouldn't slo-mo everything so much in that second vid because it makes it tough to accurately judge the quality of his shot (ie: how hard he's shooting and how quick the release is). EDIT: Admittedly, slo-mo does make for more "epic" highlights. Edited March 13, 2016 by SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Rollieo Del Fuego
That video didn't look like it was of the same player who left our farm team in Winnie... Can any of you cynical's watch that and have any doubt he can be a top 6 with us? Good thing too because we are having trouble diving our way to Lainne or Parj....

That's where he'll play if he does make it, but there's no guarantee he can keep up his recent performance in Sweden over here in the NHL.

DeNiro
Never thought we'd see this guy again. i'm glad he's back in the fold. Watching his highlights this season one thing is apparent, the guy has a Naslund-like wrist shot. If he has improved his strength and battle level he should have a chance.

Of course huge question marks about his game in comparison. If he is willing to play like this years Sven of the 2nd half of the season that would be awesome. If he is going to be a soft perimeter player hard to say. Add him to the plethora of players battling for a spot next year, and that doesnt include any moves made in FA. To me it could be JB gearing up for a busy draft week via trades etc

He likes to accumulate assets then upgrade or get the players that fit his vision better, sometimes using the newly acquired assets. Like he did with Clendening and Bonino to get Sutter. I don't know if Rodin is in their long term plans, but Benning recognizes his value hence the upcoming contract negotiations (heard on 1040 earlier). I wouldn't be surprised if Rodin was traded at this upcoming draft.
