Yeah. Its not much of a factor or incentive. Maybe playoff home ice advantage should be the reward. There would still be 2/3rd or more of the teams in each conference in the race so it's a pretty good incentive. Maybe it is too much but if they are not playing for something meaningful, they just skate around looking pretty (not all of them).
