Cabinet shuffle.

So what do you think?   Is it a good idea to have a foreign born individual now head our Ministry of Immigration?   Not judging the individual by any means but his former country is a hot bed of radicalism not friendly to the west, the optics of this must look poor to others in certain circles.  Not that our government should make appointments based on how other nations view it.  However it is looked upon and considered.  Governments make appointments all the time for their own agenda within their borders.  Look to our Minister of Defense for example was that not a signal and a thank you for your vote.  Not saying it was but be honest.  One ministry a very important one at that, was overlooked in this latest shuffle. The Ministry of Energy.  Would Canada not be better served by appointing someone who's background would be viewed favourably by the most populous nation on earth hungry for oil.  Just a thought.  Might help work out trade agreements for the sale of oil and gas.

You do know that China is the most populous nation on earth? And no, the racist clowns soon to be occupying the White House will never be able to influence Canadian appointments.

Man, its funny how much of a snapshot that post seems to give. It may be be a totally incorrect archetype, but it certainly jumps out at you. Doesn't like the immigrant holding office, really likes oil and gas, really likes the US, named after a gun. Instant mental image.

Although who knows. Maybe he spends his spare time rescuing puppies and planting trees. Who am I to judge.

Classic. Everyone and their dog is now labeled a racist for speaking their opinion. So basically what is happening now is reverse racism.

People like you make me sick.

I think he might be an OK candidate? He's experienced the Canada immigration process first hand and has experience going through it. That seems like a good credential to have. Remember, he's ultimately answering to his party and Trudeau, it's not like he's going to go off the grid against their wishes and do something they wouldn't have been doing anyways.

I also, however, echo Rypien's comment. OP was just asking other people's opinions (even mixing in platitudes) on a person who spent their entire childhood in a terrorism riddled country being appointed to control immigration in Canada. He's right, some circles will find that disagreeable. How is that racist? I'm pretty left wing, but this shouting down all opposing opinions and dismissing people as racists or ignorant whenever they disagree with you is a very, very tiring trend and one of the reasons I believe many Western nations are shifting right. It's not helping guys.

I think he ment the most populous Country hungry for oil, at least that's what I understood. Isn't Murica still the biggest oil consumer?

You got it.  As in a Chinese energy minister...the optics would look good in Beijing.  Harper allowed them to purchase a huge interest in the oilsands anyway.  It would get their attention.  Oh and Trump's too.

That's now the way it works.  If someone makes a statement you disagree with you label them a racist and/or a xenophobe.

Because it's 2017, or something stupid like that...
