[Proposal] Van/Nsh Van/Col My Wifes Birthday...need hockey talk

Recommended Posts

I'm bored, I have 30 seconds free from my wife's birthday festivities.  Loved these guys in penticton, looking to see if Value for Value our needs would be met in regards to these trades

Vancouver trades:  Hansen Subban

Nashville Trades:  Dante Fabbro 2nd

Vancouver loses Hnasen yes, but also gives up Subban to Nashville for the dreaded Subban Subban pairing.  Plus they desperately need extra scoring and it gives them one of the best bottom 6 guys in the entire league bar none in Hansen.  He may look like a top 6 player here but is a bottom 6 player on a contending team

Vancouver trades:  Ben Hutton and a 2018 2nd

Colorado Trades:  Tyson Jost

What is Colorado's most pressing need?  As per McKenzie/Sakic and basically anyone with half a hockey mind in the league, Colorado NEEDS D, young D worth the name.  While Hutton is having a down year right now he is actually looking like a solid defender.  Jost is a gamble for Colorado but could be replaced by Patrick or Hischier in this years draft.  I watched Jost for years here, at best he's a 1B center, at worst an elite 3rd line center should he play to his potential

The caveat for Nashville and Colorado is them giving us one of the most dynamic forward/d combo's I've ever seen from out of the Okanagan.  They're both young players, neither needs to be protected in the expansion and they fit the exact age range we need.  I'd even be inclined to move Tanev for Jost and a 2nd should that be a better option for Colorado moving forward.

Wife is done reminiscing.  Back to the real world....

I think these are a bit tilted in Vans favour.

I think we would be lucky to get Fabbro alone for Hansen Subban and if that were available I'd be game. Fabbro is a stud I live in Vernon and caught several games against the Vees last year. He was noticeably the best player on the ice. So I'm pretty high on him I see you live in Penticton Hippy you must have seen the kid play.

I'd peg Hansens value at around a mid 2nd and I'd peg Subbans value around a late 2nd early 3rd. lets call it 2 2nds in the 50-60 range as a package I doubt you get 17th overall for that in last years draft and Fabbros value is on the rise after a good WJC and so far showing very well in Boston.

I don't think we get Jost for Hutton and a 2nd not even close. Jost's value is pretty high right now. Hutton is struggling. Maybe if Hutton had taken a step forward this year but he hasn't looked as good without Tanev.

Go give your wife some attention CDC isn't worth your time or hers in this case.

Poile said pre-draft that he hoped to pick Ds in the first two rounds because their cupboards are bare.  IE they specifically targeted Ds (although their approach is BPA).  It's highly unlikely that they would be willing to trade Fabbro.

Josi and Ellis are also going to be UFAs just about when Fabbro should be ready to step in.

Poile last year said making a trade makes no sense when his team is not winning consistently - it's just wasting assets and that he's learned his lesson.

There is also expansion and they are going with the 4D approach: Josi, Ellis, Ekholm, Subban which leaves only 4 spots at F.  Adding a F makes little sense for where they are in the standings.

Poile has also repeated numerous times that he wants a young and fresh team and that it's highly unpredictable when 'father time catches players on the wrong side of 30' (his expression).  Hansen is also not a player they need - if anything they would be targeting a scoring LW2 in the off-season.  On the right side they already have Neal, Smith, Arvidsson, Fiala also plays RW but can also play LW and Watson.

----------

Sakic listed MacKinnon, Rantanen and Jost as the three untouchables on his team.

I was just about to post the bolded but you beat me to it. Good post, I didn't know about Poile changing his strategy on asset management.

My favorite thing about this forum is the unfailing ability for people to add such valuable insight to discussions :)

Those are sound trades. Equal and sane value for all. Frankly I'd do all of them.

Hope your wife has a great birthday and you enjoy yourself as well, Warhippy.

Poile is gone by the end of the season. He had two of the greatest defensemen in the modern era, and lost one to free agency and traded the other away unceremoniously. Poile is deranged.
