Grande Cache says hi!

Do you not think raising taxes killed jobs?

I hope you're sincerely asking otherwise you are being totally ignorant.

I like you but I don't know what you're doing right now.

I know you are referring to the hurt in the oilpatch right now however very little as to do with the NDP.  The world price was in decline during the death throes of the Conservatives but that's another story.  Over production, surplus storage, and a decline in demand all world wide issues pushed the price of a barrel downwards.  A simple statement to make on a very complicated economic situation but very true.  Alberta does not set the price of oil on the world market and certainly no provincial government here can enact policy to shake the world petroleum industry to it's core.  Actually the NDP reduced royalties on conventional oil (drilling) to the lowest of any jurisdiction in North America.  But on the global stage we are pikers in that department.  Our strength lies in the proven reserves of the oilsands which rivals that of Saudi.  However it is expensive to produce has greater refining difficulties compared to conventional oil and is a target to the environmental sector in the US and we have been their biggest supplier for many years.  To lose that market would be a disaster.

If and when oil prices approach previous levels the energy sector operating in Alberta will be more than happy to fill those 30,000 lost jobs in Calgary alone, no matter who is in government.  And just as an aside I'm not a big supporter of the NDP here but after 41 years of Conservative self entitlement and the one two punch of Alison Redb*tch and Jimmy Prentice most of the province had enough.  Jimmy showed his and his party's colours best when he couldn't be the big kid in the sandbox took all his toys and went home.   No surprise he did it before to the Conservative feds years before when the CIBC offered him a really big sandbox as their prez to play in.  See ya Mulroney I've got a bigger gig waiting.

Yup. Isn't Norway's fund now  65 times bigger than Alberta's . What happened in Alberta ?

The never ending band of conservatives used it as their own private fund...and when the NDP got into power it was real easy to blame everything on them.

To each their own...this tried old anti NDP jargon really doesnt cut it anymore..they havent been in power for years..frigging up on the fast ferries which the Libs sold by the way for a huge loss and building a deck...just doesnt cut it anymore ...the laundry list of Liberal BS goes on and on.

I understand that p.o.v., but I've seen it play out in 3 places. Notley is the only exception probably in the last 20 years, but she's pretty much running the federal Liberal playbook.

I'm open to evaluating the platforms, but Horgan so far has been boilerplate NDP dogma so far. E.g., he's trying to blame Clark for the softwood lumber deal, even though thats federal jurisdiction, and giving no credit to her for opening up new Asian markets for lumber. Most folks won't know the nuances but Horgan should be rallying for more market share in China and Japan, not spinning BS. Thats why I can't vote for him.
