hammertime
To Montreal Edler, Hansen, Burr 50% retained . To Vancouver Scherbak, Mcarron, Emilin, Terry, 2nd. Emilin and Terry make the cap work and fill our roster for the remainder of the season. Terry goes UFA and we expose Emilin to Vegas. If they don't take him and grab Dorse instead no biggi. Emilin is a decent stop gap and will be off the books at the end of next season or traded with salary retained at next years deadline. This solves our expansion problems and we get a solid return on some of our vets about to be phased out. Scherbak and Mcarron are both former 1st round picks and are great prospects who have tools to play in the bottom 6 and develop into top 6 players both with size and good skating and offensively gifted. We also gain a couple of big Russians Alexi and Scherbak so Tryamkin isn't quite so isolated. Edler slides nicely in next to Weber and takes some of the pressure off Weber. Short term Hansen Burr fix their injury woes and give them 2 proven playoff performers for their cup run.
qwijibo
Montreal says No. Edler is an upgrade offensively over Emelin but brings none of the bone crushing hits. He's also incredibly injury prone. So essentially youre looking for 2 top prospects and a 2nd for 2 bottom six players. and a marginal upgrade on defence. also, Emelin has a modified NTC (he can name 10 teams he won't accept a trade to) . no way he waives for Vancouver

Mcarron Scherbak have been cooking for a while and have yet to see any NHL success. Its a gamble that one of them pans out let alone both. MTL desperately needs FWD help due to injury and a solid top pairing LD that can line up with Weber. If anything I think its an overpayment but what do we have to loose..... Baertchi Granlund Sbisa this protects us from that. For a bunch of maybe's and a LHD who is overpaid by about a 3rd of his contract.

Actually, McCarron has stepped into the lineup with all the injuries this year and has been so effective that most hockey journalists believe that even when Montreal is healthy he will be staying with the team. Scherbak just played his first game with the big club and scored, And you're still ignoring Emelins NTC. I think it's an easy pass for Montreal. For the record Scherbak has 1g in 3 NHL games I know super small sample but only .48 ppg in the AHL last year and Mcarron has 6 pts in 35 career NHL games with .66 ppg in the ahl last year. Soooooo I'm not sure where your getting your opinion that these guys are so uber valuable at present especially for a team with so much skin in the game to win a cup. They just bought aging Weber on an albatross contract they are all in to win right now they can ill afford a first round exit.. And yes I'm also ignoring Edlers NTC. NTC's are moved often especially overpaid players with NTC's on playoff bound teams like Emilin.
RetroCanuck
If you threw Subban in from our side I think it works haha at least then people in Montreal won't mind wearing Subban jerseys again
Ronaldoescobar
Id want all those players for Edler alone.. Dominant #1d men in the NHL command more these days.

I am a Vancouver and a Habs fan in equal (rabid) measures, and this would be a clear pass for them. At first glance it may seem that they are in desperate need of forward help due to the injuries, but that isn't particularly the case. They have had really strong step ups from the kids who have come in on replacement (including McCarron, who is making a strong case as a regular NHLer when everyone is healthy). They also just got Galchenyuk and Shaw back from injuries, and have mostly weathered that storm now. I also suspect that they don't necessarily see Edler an upgrade on Emelin. Whether or not that is actually correct. Therrien has been playing Emelin in regular first pairing minutes, and while he hasn't contributed much offensively he hasn't looked horribly out of place. Edler currently has 1 more point than Emelin, and maybe 7 more shots. Admittedly this is partially due to missing some games with injury, but highlighting his injury prone status isn't exactly a point in his favour. Of the players you mentioned, Scherbak may be your best bet for a trade target. They just sent him down, and he doesn't seem to be part of the current roster plans. Should possibly be a bit careful with him though. He is also injury prone, and has a bad habit of bringing the puck through centre ice with his head down. If he waived he goes to a team currently dysfunctional team with very little chance at the playoffs
