Pavel Bure named one of NHL's 100 greatest players

Pavel Bure has been named as one of the NHL’s greatest 100 players of all-time at the NHL 100 celebration in Los Angeles on Friday.

The NHL unveiled the list of top 100 players (in no particular order) as part of the league’s 100-year anniversary. The unveiling took place in Los Angeles as part of NHL All-Star Weekend.

It was an unprecedented gathering of the best players of all-time, which included the presence of Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr.

“Honestly, speaking on behalf of the 100 players who are really fortunate to be here and be part of the National Hockey League, it’s a privilege to play the game, and we’re all fortunate enough that we’re part of this 100,” Wayne Gretzky said. “We’re all like young kids, we’re all thrilled to be here, and it’s a great honour.

Bure, who lives in Russia, was not in attendance.

The most exciting player to ever suit up for the Vancouver Canucks was named as one of the best wingers from the 1990s, along with Brett Hull, Luc Robitaille, and Brendan Shanahan.

The only player in the Hockey Hall of Fame because of his play on the ice with the Vancouver Canucks, Bure belongs on this list. The Russian Rocket scored 779 points (437-342-779) in 702 career games. Bure scored more than 50 goals in a season fives times in his career, including back-to-back 60-goal seasons with the Canucks in the early 1990s.

Two other former Canucks have been named to the list – Mark Messier and Mats Sundin – although their play with other teams was the main reason why they cracked the top-100. Current Canucks Henrik and Daniel Sedin, as well as former Canuck Roberto Luongo, were likely close to cracking the top-100, but did not make the list.

Top 5 all time imo

semisrs

Not gonna deride you, it's obviously your opinion and not a fact, just curious whom you think Bure is better then?

Gretzky, Bossy, Lemieux, Howe, Orr, Crosby, Jagr, Sakic, Yzerman, Potvin among others, but those are the ones I could think of off top of my head that (in my opinion) would be ahead of Bure.

Tbh I think the greatest player of all time is Sidney Crosby. If you compare him with Gretzky apples to apples, I think Crosby is number 1. With how hard the league is nowadays compared to back then, its amazes me with how talented he is and all that he has accomplished so far. Crazy that he still has so many years left in him too.

Bure was the best pure scoring winger I have ever seen play.

He could, and often did, make things happen every single shift in a period, in games even.

He was that good.  In the heart of the trap ridden, clutch and grab dark days.

I don't know how, and I don't believe anyone when they say they do, to quantify best ever.

He was one a kind, which is probably the most important quality to be considered Top 100.

I disagree with several of the picks, but hey, its just a list.

why f is keith in that list ahead of Thorton, Iggy, Sedins, Lu, Chara,

Agreed Keith shouldn't be on there over Thorton, Iginla or Henrik. I also think Kane shouldn't have been on there. He is a great player and will most likely end up top 100 of all time, but it's too early too put him in there right now in my opinion. Also, I think they only added Keith because they wanted to have a modern day defenceman on that list, otherwise he would have not made that list.

Keith and Kane and Datsyuk i am not crazy about.

Datsyuk deseves to be on there. He has won 2 Stanley Cups, he has 918 points in his career and he has won several NHL awards throughout his career. Something most would never expect from a player drafted 171st overall.

I'd put Crosby in the top five but not at number 1.

Tough for me to decide where to rank him vis-a-vis Jagr.

It should probably be called the top 6-100 players... and also Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Howe and Crosby. The last 5 are just interchangeable!

Gretzky: Orr, Lemieux, and I 'would have been pretty good at 3-on-3'

Cory WilkinsJan 27 2017, 5:55 PM

They'd be unbeatable.

Three of the greatest players to lace up skates spoke as part of the All-Star Game festivities in Los Angeles on Friday.

Alongside Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky summarized the three greats with the perfect one liner.

"The three of us would have been pretty good at 3-on-3," Gretzky joked.

PLAYER GAMES GOALS ASSISTS POINTS
Gretzky 1487 894 1963 2857
Lemieux 915 690 1033 1723
Orr 657 270 645 915

The trio are arguably the best to take the ice in the 100-year history of the NHL, with a host of combined accolades: Eight Stanley Cups, 18 Art Ross Trophies, 15 Hart Trophy wins, 10 Lester B. Pearson awards, and six Conn Smythes.

The 80's were a joke. You had a fresh crop of next-gen kids who came along and had a step on guys skating-wise but please.... go look at footage of Gretzky shooting the puck. A 12 year old kid these days shoots it harder than he ever did.
Plus the goalies back then had the amount of gear that a forward does now.

Gretz benefited from being at the right place at the right time, along with a number of others in that era. It also didn't help that he was surrounded by a couple of goons that would slash your teeth out (or threaten to) if you dared touch him.

Bure was way more of a pure goal scorer. Not to mention he is one of the fastest forwards to ever put on a pair of skates, and could make plays at that speed that 99% (pun intended) of other guys couldn't even dream of. Do i need to mention he was a mean %$# %$@ as well? Hello Shane Churla?

Not ranking the guy overall, but definitely Bure should have been 1st on our Ring of Dung ... i mean "Honour".

You don't have to like him but I think he's pretty worthy to be in the top 100.

If you have seen him play you would know he was the best player the canucks ever had by a long shot and why I have had a hard time with one jersey being retired by us and most I agree with

Bure was miles ahead of all players even the twins and glad he made the top 100 of all time as he should be!
