Larsen experiment has failed: Bring back the Bulldog

*Buzzsaw*

The way I see it, Larsen was brought in to be the temporary bridge player until Stecher or Subban could make the NHL. Well, Stecher is already here, and one of our best defensman, and already is one of our PP specialists, which was supposed to be Larsen's role. You win some, you lose some Benning. Let him go, and play someone else.

Or even play Subban. I highly doubt he can perform much worse than Larsen. You win some, you lose some. Count your wins with Baertschi, Granlund, Stecher, etc. let Larsen go.

The way I see it, you lost out on a 5th rounder gamble for Larsen, but won BIG on a free agent signing for Stecher. So no biggie. Let him go and focus on more future Stechers.

Losing a 5th rounder for Larsen is a wash. No biggie. Stecher eclipses all of that. Well said. Hopefully Benning waives him and doesn't give Willie the option.

I agree it doesn't hurt too much but Benning and Co. got Adam Gaudette in the 5th and look how he's turning out.

Very good point. Benning has a frickin gift. I just hope he's able to walk from what is clearly not going to work going forward.

I'm less concerned about Larsen's failure to be an NHL player and more concerned about managements apparent belief that this is a type of defenseman we need (as evidenced by signing Bartkowski and Larsen these last 2 seasons). There's a place in todays NHL for smaller, skilled, more mobile defense but it can't come at the cost of grit or compete level, especially playing in the pacific division.

I wouldn't worry too much. Larsen was signed before Stecher proved himself. I can't see any situation where Benning could justify holding to Larsen. If anything, he's probably just having Willie play him so that he can use him as a cursory piece in a trade, instead of the usual draft pick.

ahhhhhh, the unreasonable whipping boy thread, the coat of arms for Canucks fans.

Larsen hasn't been nearly as bad as many make him out to be and he's hasn't cost the canucks any wins.  he's a #6-8 dman that they are trying to get a read on for next season, and to do that, he needs to play.

The read is abundantly clear.  He's not even good enough to be a #8 defesneman and absolutely his incompetence in his own zone is costing us games.  Having a defenseman who can't play defense makes it that much harder for the 5 NHL defensemen in the lineup to cover up for his atrocious play.

If management seriously thinks Larsen belongs in the NHL, let alone on this team next year, we need to implement drug testing in the front office.

So now with Hutton returning, it should mean Larsen is out.

But I have a weird paranoid thought of Tram getting put in the press box.

Hutton was skating with Tryamkin at practice today.  Larsen was paired with Biega.

Larsen was paired with Biega at practice pretty easy to see who the odd men out are...

Larsen is miles better, defensively, than Subban.  At this point it is highly unlikely that Subban has any kind of NHL career ahead of him.
