Bloody brilliant asset management. WHy would any young player with the option of going elsewhere (BOeser) want to come and play under this coach? The team is a bottom feeder despite WD's best "playing to win now" efforts, and yet he won't make space on this crappy roster for players that just might make a difference. So frustrated watching a crappy product from a bottom 5 team with no creativity or flexibility. I'd rather have Torts back...at least he was entertaining. Boeser misses his old buddy Troy. Yeah Boucher not playing is all because of some made up love affair with Megna and not because Boucher was huffing and puffing after just 4 minutes of ice time... kloubek
I agree with this move. I think any forward in today's NHL needs to have the ability to chip in with scoring here and there. I was ok with Gaunce's game overall, but I do feel he has the ability to be a better rounded player that he just wasn't showing at this level. Hopefully with the increased ice time and lesser defensive competition he can get some confidence and put the puck in the net once in a while down there. He'll go to Utica, and help them out for now, and will come into next season with a determination. Gaunce may not be the most talented guy out there, but I see something in this kid. Something like a Burrows/like quality/attribute. He's not really the best at anything, or really excels at any area of the game, but he puts his head down and he works. I see him making the team out of camp next year, and making the 4th line his staple. I can't wait until he get's his first goal. 100% agree with your thoughts Mr.53 #BoKnows doesn't he? On another note, no need to wait for his first career goal (unless you meant his first of the season), check it out here:

I think those two might have a chance to build some chemistry in Utica. And if they can become a decent duo, they could possibly help each other grow into their NHL roles next season (assuming Gaunce isn't lost to expansion). If nothing else, the Comets can definitely use the help. ^^^ Giddyup

He was deployed in a conservTuve, defensive capacity with Skille and Chaput as linemates. McDavid would have trouble producing possible points in that situation. Then consider Megna, who is still with the team, and what he produced with all his 1st line and pp opportunity. Gaunce may be a victim of waivers but he is not the guy that deserves to be sent down. Horvats_Big_Head
For all the poop I've thrown Gaunce's way, Megna clearly deserves to get sent down before him. However, Gaunce may benefit from this moving. Here's hoping he comes back a more complete player!
GB5
I'm still waiting to send Willie back to the minors.... This team clearly does better when; 1. The fourth line plays double digits in minutes 2. Horvat's ice time equals that of the Sedins and; 3. Larsen isn't playing
hlinkas wrister
He's not really what I think a fourth line player should be, he's got great heart and a head for the game but he's neither mean enough or fast enough for that role. Seems a good kid though, wish him all the best and I hope he makes the grade in the long run.

Qwags
Disagree with this, but I'm sure we'll see him again. I'd rather have him than Megna. Silver lining: we might see more of Boucher.

spook007
Think this is good move. Gaunce has already shown he can play. He now goes back to UTICA to hopefully be one of the go to guys, and maybe gets a little more confidence in the goal scoring department. Must be hard for him not to have found the net this year. Fully expect Ganuce to be on the team next year.

Like I said, on a merit basis, I think the demotion is undeserved and there were better candidates (among the waivers eligible depth forwards). And I don't think this choice makes the team better. But in terms of Gaunce's development, I don't think this hurts him. There's plenty of benefit to be gained from the higher minutes and better opportunities that Utica can provide. That said, I strongly believe that Gaunce has already proven his value as an NHL role player. And I believe his has room to grow in terms of his scoring production at this level. So I'm not exactly happy to see him sent down (especially given the guys being kept around instead). AT the beginning of the season I was hoping for 40 games so that Gaunce could get a solid feel for NHL play. I agree that because he does not need waivers it probably meant he was the option to reduce the roster. As you said the positive is that Gaunce goes to the AHL and gets top 6 TOI. What better example could Benning send down to show Virtanen how to develop a work attitude. I suspect Gaunce is back before the season ends. Fans who are degrading Chaput and Skille are head scratchers to me. Both are having solid years. The 4th line has had many games where they were the best Canuck line on the ice. They regularly had shifts where they were in the ozone for the entire shift. They have to get Boucher into games if they want to resign him. stonecoldstevebernier
Won't hurt Gaunce to go back down to Utica but like many others here I think he deserves to be on the team over Megna. But obviously management doesn't want to take the risk of waiving somebody, even if they're highly unlikely to be claimed. Also shows they're maybe not quite ready to give up on Larsen as they'd rather keep 8 D instead of 14 F. Hopefully this means Boucher gets a look on the road trip.
