[Trade] Canucks trade Alex Burrows to Senators for Jonathan Dahlen

Recommended Posts

I, like many others here, am bummed to see burrows go. He meant a lot to the team and community, I am glad to see that he was able to get an extension in Ottawa. The return for him looks great, but with all prospects there is a risk. I think that the timing of the move, the return for burr, and the fact that we gave no picks for a promising prospect in Dahlen makes this a fantastic move for the Canucks.

This is a GM feeling the pressure to get his team into the playoffs and ignoring the future.

Or a GM who sees Dahlen as a centre and believes he has two centres in White and Brown playing in front of him.

I'm sure the Sens debated the move, but in the end, even though they liked the prospect, figured they be okay moving him.

Watch his highlights on youtube the kid is crazy good on his edges.

If the Canucks send him to Bo's skating coach and he takes some of that in... Agility and a powerful start. Top end speed isn't the most critical thing, it's that 10-15 foot start and stop. Bure wasn't the *fastest* skater of the time, hell even Shawn Antoski was faster in 'the lap'. ... but nobody was even close to Bure's takeoff.

So if this kid can get a quicker jump and keep those quick cuts... he's got the hands already. Could be a hell of a player, even if he isn't huge.

incredibly happy with we got in return. patience is a virtue and Benning fleeced the Sens hands down. Dahlen was one of Sweden's key players in the WJCs and he was one of the reasons why Sweden made it so far in the tourney.. they made it to the semis i believe.. have heard nothing but good things about this kid.. we have a good one.. feel good about this and eases the Jake pick... came at a cost though of Burr and I will never forget the memories he made with the team with the GWG in OT vs the Hawks in Game 7 of the 2011 Western Conference playoffs of the opening round being the biggest but Burr wanted to do this for the sake of the team's future and he continues to help us with this move. hope he helps the Sens win a cup there.

The skills are all there, size is a little short, but he isn't afraid to go to the dirty areas and fight. The only thing I keep reading about his is skating technique, it's a little off, but he's producing, I don't see a problem fixing this one issue if it's really a problem.

Sounds like the scouting report on Tkachuk

Hows this JB move for U ALF, 189lbs. AppleBOY, Labambi, King D, etc...

You seem as confused today as you were yesterday. I love Benning and what he has been able to do. Benning is following the overall direction that was given him from above. Owners should have allowed them to blow up the team 3 years ago and we would be farther ahead. They needed to let him do what he dose best. I hope he has permission to move  few more pieces yet this year.  Not just older players.
